Sony has not forgotten the PS2 and plans to furnish it with 130 new games by the end of the year, taking its lifetime catalogue to 10,000 titles.

Those on their way include Yakuza 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Warriors Orochi 2, SingStar whatever it is now, Mercenaries 2 and more.

Sony also used the PS2 as historical proof during its E3 conference that the PS3 will meet with similar worldwide success through its "ten-year vision".

US boss Jack Tretton picked San Andreas appearing four years into the PS2 cycle as an example, before highlighting that it took a further three years before we saw God of War.

"[The PS2] allowed us to be more aggressive with our approach on PS3," said Tretton. "The biggest brands in the industry are still delivering games on PS2."

The sales projection for financial 2008 puts the PS2 at 9 million and the PS3 at 10 million.

However, eventually Tretton hopes you will migrate from PS2 to PS3, and his goal is to make that as seamless as possible.
