Sony mulls single subscription for all SOE PC users
One rate to rule them all.
Sony is considering a scheme to move all PC Sony Online Entertainment gamers to a single subscription rate for all titles.
The cover-all charge currently under consideration would likely run to $14.99 (around £9) a month, SOE boss John Smedley explained via Reddit (thanks, Polygon), and be similar to current All Access option.
The company's range of games includes PlanetSide 2, Everquest 2 and DC Universe Online, among others.
"We are considering (and are likely going to move forward with) a plan that means if you subscribe to one of our games you are a subscriber to all our games," he wrote. "That's a benefit most companies simply can't offer because they don't have our portfolio of games."
The scheme may take a little longer for European players, Smedley warned, but plans are in motion. "We need to discuss with our partners," he wrote. "We have a pretty good idea on this though. Give us a bit of time to suss this out."
Refunds would be offered to users with existing subscriptions to SOE games, and new three, six or 12-month subs will be made available.
There are no plans for the scheme to be applied to consoles, however.
"We can't do the same kind of promotions as easily on the PS3 and PS4," Smedley concluded. "We're a lot more limited because we can't use [SOE premium currency] Station Cash on there. So when we have a 3x sale on SC we have to do something different for our console titles. It's a pain in the neck to deal with this."
