Sony will show PlayStation 5 games next week
UPDATE: Thursday's event postponed.
UPDATED STORY 1/6/20: Sony has postponed Thursday's PlayStation 5 games reveal livestream to a later, currently undisclosed date.
Sharing the news on Twitter, the company wrote, "While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard".
ORIGINAL STORY 29/5/20: Sony will reveal multiple PlayStation 5 games next week on Thursday, 4th June, via a stream on Twitch and YouTube.
The presentation will last around an hour, and debut at 9pm UK time.
Writing on the PlayStation blog, company boss Jim Ryan teased a focus on the PS5's software line-up:
"We've shared technical specifications and shown you the new DualSense wireless controller. But what is a launch without games?" Ryan wrote. "That's why I'm excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you'll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday.
"The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.
"This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next week's showcase, we will still have much to share with you."
Notably, there's no confirmation there we'll see the PlayStation 5 console itself.
Speaking to Eurogamer sister site GamesIndustry.biz as part of a wide-ranging interview on PlayStation's plans in an exceptional year, Ryan confirmed Sony's console was still "on track" for launch in 2020.
"We are on track. We are going to launch this holiday and we're going to launch globally. We're really looking forward to it and it's going to be a blast."
Eurogamer will be reporting live next Thursday. See you then.
