Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon is out now on Steam and iOS
Waking Mars dev's sequel also slated for PS4, Vita and Android.
Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon, Tiger Style's long anticipated sequel to 2009's exploration-based mystery Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, is out now on iOS, PC, Mac and Linux.
It costs £9.99 / $12.99 on Steam and £3.99 / $4.99 on iOS, though the Steam version is 10 per cent off until 13th August.
For those unfamiliar with the Spider series, Bryce Manor was Tiger Style's debut before it made the acclaimed sci-fi adventure Waking Mars.
The series puts players in the role of a spider simply exploring a creepy mansion. The spider itself isn't integral to the plot, but we get to piece together the story of what happened at this moody manor in the times before we scuttled into the picture. Think Gone Home, if Gone Home cast you as an arachnid.
There are however more traditional game mechanics to the Spider series than Fullbright's debut. Rite of the Shrouded Moon lets players climb the leaderboards by constructing webs to catch insects in a variety of spacial puzzles. There's a complex scoring system involved with lots of multipliers and combos to learn.
As such, it's effectively a score-chasing arcade game and an ambitious narrative-driven puzzle game in one as you try to solve convoluted mysteries based on close observation of the environment (naturally, there will be hidden passages).
Rite of the Shrouded Moon also features a nifty fourth-wall breaking mechanic where it uses your location to determine the time of day and weather, which is then reflected into the game. "When it rains in real life, the rain also falls on Blackbird Estate," Tiger Style teased. "Play on a stormy night when lightning electrifies the top of the tower, or explore during a full moon when rare moths can be found."
Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon is also coming to PS4, Vita and Android platforms soon, so keep an eye out for that.
