Star Citizen's first-person shooting changes coming along nicely
Bye bye bobbing.
Much is made of the spaceships in Star Citizen, or of the planetary landings, but there's a fair chunk of the game that will play out on foot - shooting included. But currently the game has an odd quirk, or problem depending on how you look at it: head bobbing. The camera is attached the model's eyes and so bobs around an awful lot. But that's going to change.
Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has shown, in a new video, the new vision stabilisation system that's being worked on. But the video also shows general improvements to Star Citizen's gun-play, as a player romps recklessly around Port Olisar.
The video is a handsome reminder, or perhaps introduction - depending on how closely you follow the game - of what Chris Roberts and team are trying to achieve during the on-foot sections of the game. I felt some strong Mass Effect pangs while watching it.
Alpha 3.0 is the big milestone currently on the horizon for Star Citizen. It's the one with the planetary landings I mentioned. We hope for alpha 3.0 this year but we don't know when it will arrive. But we probably will know more after CitizenCon 2016 has been and gone. That's the annual Star Citizen convention and it takes place Sunday, 9th October in Los Angeles.
