Super Mario Odyssey - The Icicle Barrier and Ice Wall Barrier

How to complete the Snow Kingdom objective.

The Icicle Barrier and Ice Wall Barrier are objectives you'll encounter after a fair bit of time with Super Mario Odyssey, which follow on from Super Mario Odyssey - The Cake Thief's Parting Gift, The Gusty Barrier, Snowy Mountain Barrier and Tall Broodal.

You'll find our full walkthrough for them here, whilst you can head back to our main Super Mario Odyssey guide, walkthrough and tips hub for plenty more on all aspects of the game!

The Icicle Barrier

Take the first right-hand cavern and enter Icicle Cavern. Keep moving forward, but beware of the slippery ice floor of the platforms. Look out for the round shadows on the floor, this will cause stalactites to fall from above.

Hit a Goomba twice to possess it, then follow the thin trail forwards. Turn right and jump onto the next platform. Keep moving, avoiding the falling stalactites.

Turn right at the ice wall, and use the platforms and falling icicles to reach each higher level. When you reach the top level, run across the three ice locks, causing three different stalactites to fall.

This will make the giant icicle you're standing on to fall. Run across it and collect the Moon (The Icicle Barrier) on the other side.

The Ice Wall Barrier

Run down the second right-hand cavern to enter the Hollow Crevasse. Run forwards and collect the first Moon Shard. Beware of the square shadows moving on the floor, these are foes that will rise from the ground and snap you. They move quickly, but are slow to snap so you often have enough time to jump free.

The second Moon Shard is on the far left-hand side of the first grid. Run forwards, avoiding the statue foes and grab the third Shard on the far right down its own path. Run back and collect the fourth Shard to the left of the second grid. The fifth and final shard is at the end of the second grid.

Need more assistance? Our Super Mario Odyssey guide and walkthrough goes through all objectives in each Kingdom, while our Power Moon locations can help you track down the likes of Cascade Kingdom Power Moons, Sand Kingdom Power Moons, Metro Kingdom and New Donk City Power Moons and more collectables. We also have Purple Coin locations for each Kingdom, and if you want to know what to spend it on, we have a hats list, outfits list, stickers list, a souvenirs list as well as a music list to kit out the appearance of both Mario and the Odyssey.

Now use one of the statue monsters to lift you up to the platform on your left, leaping free before it snaps. Now stand to the left of the next platform and use the monster to life you up, leaping free at the last moment. Repeat on the next platform, standing on its very edge to ensure you reach the next platform.
