Super Mario Odyssey passes 10m sales milestone
Hat's off.
Nintendo has sold an eye-opening 10.41m copies of Super Mario Odyssey since the game's launch last October. Odyssey is now Nintendo Switch's best-selling game - well over half the console's entire userbase now owns a copy.
As of 31st March this year, Nintendo has sold 17.79m Switch consoles - an impressive figure for a console just one year old.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now stands at 9.22m sales, Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 8.48m sales, and Splatoon 2 on 6.02m. These figures include bundled copies and downloads.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch has already outsold the lifetime sales of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U (8.42m copies). Nintendo Switch eclipsed Wii U's lifetime console sales earlier this year. (Now discontinued, Nintendo's previous machine sold 13.5m units.)
Four other Nintendo Switch games have now sold over a million copies: 1-2 Switch (2.29m), Arms (1.85m), Xenoblade 2 (1.31m) and Kirby Star Allies (1.26m).
In total, 68m Nintendo Switch games have been sold to date.
Looking to the next 12 months, Nintendo forecasts it will sell 20m more Nintendo Switch consoles and an astonishing 100m Switch games. In short, Nintendo wants to double the Switch hardware and software ownership of the console's first 12 months.
It's an ambitious target - but with Super Smash Bros. and Pokémon on the horizon, it feels achievable.
