The Escapists Alcatraz DLC out today for £2
Eastwood be a good side to swim from.
Clint Eastwood escaped Alcatraz but can you? The Escapists Alcatraz downloadable content has been released on PC (£1.59) and Xbox One (£1.99). The content blurb says Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary has been "painstakingly rebuilt".
The romantically notorious prison of Alcatraz had a number of escape attempts in the years it operated (1934-1963) but only one swimmer made it to shore - to be recaptured. The most famous escape by far was in 1962 by prisoners Clarence Anglin, John Anglin and Frank Morris, who dug tunnels, built an inflatable raft and were never found. It's a tale that led directly to the Escape from Alcatraz book and then film, starring Clint Eastwood, and indirectly to the also brilliant The Shawshank Redemption film.
All of those things inspired The Escapists, a game about juggling relentlessly monotonous day-to-day prison life with a prison escape plan.
Our writer Dan Whitehead reviewed The Escapists and Recommended it. "A seemingly simple prison break romp that reveals greater depths for patient players," he wrote.
