The EU version of SMT: Devil Survivor 2 is finished, but Ghostlight needs fan support to get it released
Lackluster retail support for DS titles is "making it difficult" to release the game.
A fortnight ago publisher Ghostlight announced the European release date for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor: Overclocked, a 3DS remake of the 2009 DS cult-hit Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor. Understandably, fans have been asking about its sequel, the DS-exclusive Devil Survivor 2, which was released in Japan in 2011 and in North America in early 2012.
Ghostlight updated its official blog to inform everyone that the European version of the game is complete and even approved by Nintendo, it just needs to find a way to release it, which is easier said than done given that DS titles are being phased out of retail.
"Without going into too much detail, retail support for DS titles is understandably low at the moment making it difficult for us to release the title," said Ghostlight. "We haven't given up though and we're currently looking into several different ways of making this fantastic game available to you all."
The publisher noted that it's been kicking around the idea of releasing Devil Survivor 2 - or at least a collector's edition of it - directly from its own online storefront, but this would require a lot of fan support to make a reality. "One way that I've heard being discussed on the Ghostlight grapevine is that we may release a Collector's Edition of the game exclusively through our website which will mean we'd need your full support in making this release happen," explained Ghostlight.
So far it appears Ghostlight's had a lot of support as it noted its first consignment stock of Devil Survivor: Overclocked is nearly gone after only a week of pre-orders. It also noted that players can get free bonus posters for ordering it directly through the publisher's website.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor: Overclocked is due on 29th March.
