The Last of Us Part 2 - The Descent: All items, flamethrower location and how to explore all areas explained
How to complete The Descent chapter and find everything along the way.
The Descent follows on from The Last of Us Part 2's The Shortcut chapter.
This sees Abby and Lev continue their way across Seattle to the hospital by taking a shortcut through a skyscraper.
Now - they need to make their way down, and instead of Scars in their way, there is infected.

Exploring the gym in The Descent
At the start of the chapter, you'll be next to a pool.
Jump in and dive to the bottom, where you can find the Illinois Coin near a grate.
Go through the doors into the gym. This area, and the rest of the floor, has various supplies worth grabbing.
There are two missables here before you go. Go through to the other side of the gym to a corridor.
There are two doors ahead - the right has stairs to continue, while the left has a storeroom with a safe.
To get the safe code, go down the end of this corridor to Orchards Juice Bar.
Go through to the back and grab the Gym Safe Combo Artefact from the corkboard on the wall.
The Artefact says the 'code is the same as the wifi'. To find the wifi password, return to the gym and look on the side wall to learn it's 121879.
Now return to the storeroom and enter safe code 12-18-79 for various supplies.
Also, this is the final safe if the game - so if you have found all the others until now, a Trophy is yours.
When you have searched everywhere on this floor (there are toilets opposite the Juice Bar to explore too) head through the door in the corridor to the stairs.
After the cutscene, you will get the FEDRA Orders Artefact.
How to find a gas mask in The Descent
Go down to Floor 19, and attempt the door. After the cutscene, you have a new task - finding a gas mask for Lev.
Start by going left, vaulting the sofa to get into the room where there are various supplies.
Go back to the stairwell door, and take the exposed beam and slide through the wall.
To find the gas mask, go left, then down the corridor into room 1904 at the end, to find it on the body next to the bed.
That said, you'll want to wait until you have explored the floor first, as that will see infected arrive. If you do, there's nothing missable - just various supplies in the many rooms.
This includes several rooms off that corridor - Room 1903 is locked (as you might hear, there are infected inside) while 1905 is open. Though the gas mask on the body here is broken, searching it gives you some ammo.
When ready, grab the Gas mask from 1904 to see stalkers will populate the floor, so take your time at each corner to see if they appear. The locked room 1903 is now open if you want some supplies, otherwise make your way back to the stairwell. You can sprint there if you wish as you don't need to return.
Once you pass Lev the gas mask, go through the door. Lev will spot a hose above which allows you to climb down.
Exploring the infected hotel rooms in The Descent
Enter the hole in the wall next to the vending machine to find a corpse with the FEDRA Final Note Artefact.
Go back to the previous area and into the corner, where you will see a giant hole through multiple floors of the hotel. We'll be working our way around and down the rooms of this.
Start by taking the thin ledge across to a bathroom.
After you pick up the shotgun ammo, a stalker will jump out of the nearby wall. It's recommended you have a shiv crafted to take care of it easily.
Continue onto another bathroom in the corner, then run and jump down below into a bedroom. You can hear infected close by.
Turn the corner and leap across. Round the corner left, as soon as you leap over, is a clicker. It's best to run as soon as you land and turn around to deal with it.
Continue going round the corner to two doors - one ahead dropping down, and a partly open door to a bathroom to the right.
How to get the flamethrower in The Descent
Go right first, squeezing through the door into the bathroom, and go across the beam to find the Flamethrower.
As soon as you get it, a stalker will emerge from the corner of the room. The attack will awaken others in the area. Grab the supplies and wait for the clickers - one after another - to appear in the bathroom across the beam. They cannot cross it, so fire at them from a distance.
Now squeeze back through the door, then turn right, dropping from the beam to the right.
There is a thin ledge you can take into a hole in the wall - a dead end with various supplies.
Turn back to where you dropped down and enter room 1302.
There are supplies in here - including flamethrower ammo - before you drop down the ledges below at the far side, and a beam. There is another beam to the right after you cross, which is where you need to go.
As soon as you approach the beam, you'll hear a shambler. It's round the corner in the room after the first beam. There are supplies here if you want to take it on, though in theory, you could take the next beam to the opposite corner to avoid it.
After the second beam, turn right, then run and jump to the level below.
Straight ahead when you land is a stalker in the wall.
There is a beam here to progress, but ignore it for now - first turn around and leap across to a room.
This optional location has some supplies and the Oregon Coin on the right ledge.
Run back to the stalker wall room, then leave out the right to the beam - the longest yet - taking you to the far side of the floor.
There are two doorways here - either takes you to the same room with supplies.
To continue, drop down the ledges in front of the left doorway, and onto a mattress.
There are various supplies on this floor, then when you're ready to continue, go in the direction of the smashed windows in the far wall ahead.
Drop down here, and keep descending until you drop in front of a door, a corpse and some flamethrower ammo.
How to reach the elevator in The Descent
Open the door when ready, and make your way through the floor filled with infected.
The aim is to reach the elevator door at the very end of this corridor. Before it is a bloater. Start by going left, squeezing through the wall, and taking down the clicker in this left room. There is a stalker in the wall here too, and a clicker may drift through.
For us, all hell broke loose at a certain point, and if that happens, the bloater will come running. It'll go down surprisingly easy with a flamethrower, so save your ammo for then.
Either way there are no missable items on this floor, so whichever way you want to progress, make your way to the elevator at the end and open it up.
Follow Lev onto the other elevator then through the doors to another floor.
To the left are some boxes and a vending machine. Grab the supplies and smash the vending machine glass. This causes the Wisconsin Coin to appear.
Go down the corridor and left through the door to reach the outdoors. You need to slide down the right ledge to a rooftop bar.
Go past the sofas to the bar area, where behind the counter you can find the Rhode Island Coin.
To progress, take the short walkway in the corner, past the writing on the wall and through the ruins until you come across a cutscene where you see the hospital.
Swim on and climb out onto the ledge. No need to be stealthy - Abby will talk her way into the compound.
Exploring the hospital in The Descent
After the cutscene, turn right, past the ambulance and into the building entrance. (If you remember, this is where you entered this area earlier in the game as Ellie.)
On the ground at the end, next to the window, is the Missouri Coin.
To finish the chapter, head into the Main Entrance of the Hospital ahead.
