For Fame and Glory
Head due west from Larvik to find two warriors outside a disused mine. Talk to them to start an escort mission. Try and keep the enemies as far back as you can at all times - as soon as one of the warriors dies, that's the quest failed.
If you've upgraded Aard, it's quite a handy tool for pushing everyone a safe distance away. Remember too that the devourers deliver splash damage when they die. A tip: if you can get into the cave quickly enough, one of the warriors appears to get left behind, leaving you with only one to protect.
Our Witcher 3 walkthrough and guide can help you with the main story, including the Wandering in the Dark and Family Matters missions, and eventually, one of several Witcher 3 endings. There's plenty of side content, too, including Witcher 3 Contracts, White Orchard quests, Velen quests, Novigrad quests and Skellige Isles quests. Elsewhere, learn about the best Witcher 3 builds, the best Witcher 3 mods, how to make money in Witcher 3, find Places of Power locations, and learn how to do Witcher 3 crafting and Witcher 3 Alchemy And when you're done with all those - we can help you through expansions with our Hearts of Stone walkthrough and Blood and Wine walkthrough.
In Wolf's Clothing
Read the noticeboard in Larvik to activate the quest, then head to talk to Josta. Once the conversation is over, go and talk to Einar to find out more about the curse, before heading for the garden.
There's a locked gate on the western side of the wall, and some stairs just to the left of it - climb the stairs and follow the wall around until you reach a courtyard with a building on the left. Underneath the tree there are some things to look at with your Witcher Senses, and a trail of footprints to follow, but they're part of the story quest that runs concurrently, so ignore them.
Keeping the building on your left, head forwards and drop down to the lower level. Turn left through a large opening in a wooden wall into an overgrown grassy area, take out the wolf, and then keep heading east, dropping down again into an area with a small stream in it.
Cross the bridge and climb the stone ladder to the north, then activate your Witcher Senses and examine the footprints. You'll also spot a couple of levers. The right one selects a gate (you can see which one is selected on the device between the two levers), and the left one opens it. Open the right-hand gate, then head north up the slope to a cave entrance.
Once inside, watch a brief cut-scene then beat the werewolf down. Have a chat with him, beat him down again, and then use Witcher Sense to find the draft coming from below.
Head back outside and jump into the canal, then go through the gate you opened earlier. Dive and swim along the narrow tunnel into another cavern. Use your Witcher Senses to nose around and loot the padlock key from the pile of bones to the right of the entrance. Swim back to the gardens (there's a stone ladder on the left side of the canal just before you get to the bridge) and return to the upper courtyard and enter the building.
The door on the right leads to a room with assorted loot in it, and the door on the left contains a chest with Morkvarg's journal inside it. Read the tome, then head back to Einar and talk to him. It may be tempting to kill him, but this fight needs to be won with words (“We don't need to fight”).
Once he's given you the fang and explained how to use it, return to the garden and use the gate mechanism to open the middle gate. Swim through it and climb the stone ladder to the right. Head towards the building in the north-west corner of the area and use your Witcher Senses to examine the broken door on the ground outside, as well as the items on the floor inside.
Morkvarg will now reappear, ready for another taste of your blade. When he's down for the count, interact with him and hand him the cursed fang. Hey presto, one human Morkvarg! Find out where his loot is stashed, then attack him. Now that he's a puny mortal it shouldn't be difficult. Head back to the priestess to collect a reward, then head to Novigrad to collect the loot from the loan shark and finish the quest.
