You can get an exclusive Game Boy theme as part of Tetris 99's next online Grand Prix event
Kicks off next week.
Nintendo is hosting another online Grand Prix event for its ludicrously compelling block-dropping Battle Royale game Tetris 99 next week, and there's a nifty Game Boy theme as a prize for all that do well enough.
Tetris 99's third official Grand Prix, which kicks off at 8am on Friday 17th May and comes to a close at 7:59am on Monday 20th May, is an online-only event, and requires a subscription to Nintendo's Switch Online service in order to participate.
Once again, points are awarded to players depending how high they manage to place during a match, with 100 points going to anyone that comes top. Assuming Nintendo is using the same scoring system as in previous events, 2nd place earns 50 points, 3rd gets 30 points, 4th-10th gets 20 points, 11th-30th gets 10 points, 31st-50th gets five points, and 51st-80th place gets two points. Come any lower and you score nowt.
Although participants' final placement at the end of the Grand Prix event doesn't offer more than bragging rights, Nintendo has previously entered players that score over 100 points into a draw to win 999 My Nintendo Gold Points.
Things will be a little different for its third Tetris 99 Grand Prix, however, and anyone that manages to amass 100 points or more by the time the competition closes will be granted a rather nifty Game Boy Tetris theme to be used in-game, in celebration of the block-dropper's 35th anniversary on June 6th.
It's been a bit of a busy day for Tetris 99, all told. Earlier, Nintendo announced that it would be releasing an offline version of the previously online-only Battle Royale experience as paid DLC.
