This is how SkyDrive on Xbox One works
Videos and photos on your console.
Cloud-based file hosting service SkyDrive will be available on Xbox One at its 22nd November launch, Microsoft has announced.
The SkyDrive Xbox One app, which lets you access your videos and photos, includes functionality that makes use of the console's unique features - but not all of them will be available to UK users.
You can open photo albums from channels in OneGuide, but OneGuide won't be available in the UK until 2014.
You will be able to play music with your slideshows using Xbox Music, however, and control everything with gestures and voice via Kinect. The verbal command to get started is: "Xbox, go to Skydrive."
If you have a Windows Phone (you do have one, don't you?), photos you take with it are automatically uploaded to SkyDrive, and so can be accessed on Xbox One without extra faff.
The video, below, features a demonstration.
Back in July Microsoft said Xbox One, with Skype, SkyDrive and other apps, could be of benefit to small businesses that use video conferencing and networking.
At the time Microsoft's director of Consumer Camp Marques Lyons said SkyDrive could be used in conjunction with Internet Explorer and Office Web Apps to open that Excel spreadsheet or PowerPoint.
Xbox One includes the following first-party apps:
- Xbox Fitness
- Xbox Video
- Xbox Music
- Internet Explorer
- Skype
- SkyDrive
- Upload
It also includes a raft of entertainment apps at launch.
