Thrall's back in World of Warcraft
For the Horde!
Blizzard's bringing Thrall back in World of Warcraft.
The ex-Horde leader and central Warcraft character has been something of a recluse since 2016 expansion Legion, but in a new cinematic, fellow orc Varok Saurfang visits his idyllic home and convinces him to take up arms once again.
The Horde is in an interesting place in the Warcraft story, with current leader Sylvanas Windrunner seemingly on a relentless quest to tear the world apart.
And so, the stage is set for a dramatic comeback, Sylvanas' defeat and, perhaps, Thrall to reclaim his title as Warchief.
Blizzard's cinematic is typically fancy, and in a cool nod to the famous MMO, includes in-game audio effects, such as the rogue stealth sound. The detail is as impressive as you'd expect, and the voice acting on point. It sure sounds like Chris Metzen is still voicing Thrall - Metzen retired from Blizzard back in September 2016.
Thrall's return was spotted earlier in May after an update hit World of Warcraft's public test realm for the Rise of Azshara patch. The update reveals players are sent to rescue Baine Bloodhoof, who's in a dungeon in Orgrimmar, from the chop. Thrall, now recruited by Saurfang, gets stuck in.
Is this the beginning of the end for Sylvanas? Some World of Warcraft players will certainly hope so. Either way, it's good to see Thrall back in the game. It's about time.
