Three months on, Oculus fulfils all Rift pre-orders

Reality check.

It's pretty rare that a company can enter the world of consumer electronics manufacturing and not have a pretty rough time for it, and so it's been for Oculus, the Facebook-owned virtual reality pioneer. Its VR headset Rift has been dogged with supply and manufacturing issues, leading to long wait times for customers, since it launched back in late March.

Woo!

Well, that is finally all over now. Oculus has announced that all Rift pre-orders have now shipped, and the wait time on a new order at Oculus.com is just two to four business days.

This should also mean that prices for Rift on the open market can now return to normal. Just a couple of weeks ago, we reported headsets being sold on Amazon for almost double the sticker price.

"We want to apologize for the delays in getting Rifts to doorsteps," Oculus said in its blog post. "We appreciate that without your support, VR wouldn't be where it is today. Thank you for your patience over the past few months."

Oculus is now starting to push more Rifts into retail stores in the US, including Microsoft Stores (interesting how tight-knit Oculus and the Windows and Xbox platform-holder seem to be these days, isn't it?) and Best Buys.

Hopefully the same problems won't dog the release later this year of Oculus' next hardware launch, the superb Oculus Touch VR controllers, which will bring its experience closer to that of the rival HTC Vive.

Oculus also announced the dates for its next Oculus Connect developer conference: October 5th-7th in San Jose, California. We can expect more details on Touch and its launch line-up of games at the event.
