Ubi "a bit mad" about Atari buying Cryptic

They'll just have to get someone else then.

A Ubisoft exec has admitted his company was also in the running to buy MMO specialist Cryptic Studios, which was bought out by Atari earlier this week.

Chief finance bod Alain Martinez told a UBS conference that the French publisher was upset to lose out, reports Gamasutra.

"We lost one deal which we were a bit mad [about]," he said. "We lost Cryptic; it's a US company that was taken by Atari... We were a bit disappointed."

Never mind, there's nothing like a bit of retail therapy to get over a broken heart. Ubisoft is still shopping for developers.

"We have about three deals within [the] five million Euro range that we are negotiating," Martinez revealed. "Most probably, one or two of them will be closed in the next three or four months."
