Virtual Console spouts three
Gate of Thunder. Dirty.
Nintendo has ushered three more oldies onto the Virtual Console, lead by NeoGeo fighter World Heroes.
This colourful old soul pits a bunch of historically-inspired brawlers up against each other in one giant tournament, thanks to a mad scientist who has a time machine. It stoked up cult following on the niche platform back in 1992, despite being often overlooked due to Street Fighter II mania.
Still, it had some unique bits and pieces like a Deathmatch mode with traps and hazards, and flourished some decent gameplay of its own. Yours for 900 points (GBP 6.30 / EUR 9).
Next is Gate of Thunder for the TurboGrafx-16, made by Bomberman-brain Hudson. Lots of people like you and me believe this is one of the best games to ever appear on the platform, praising its catchy CD soundtrack and nifty side-scrolling shooting.
All you have to do is hop in your spaceship Hunting Dog and stop bad guy General Don Jingi from stealing the Starlight power source from the planet Aries. All yours for 800 points (GBP 5.60 / EUR 8) - bizarre, seeing as they normally go for 600.
Last but not least is Castlevania II: Simon's Quest for the NES. Once again you are after fanged villain Dracula, as you seek out his scattered remains in order to lift a nasty curse. However, this instalment marked itself out as different thanks certain role-playing elements that let you upgrade yourself and your weapons as well as revisit areas. Yours at a bite for 500 points (GBP 3.50 / EUR 5).
As always, if you are unsure about spilling your change on these and think you might be horrified at how they stand up now, then simply wait for our Virtual Console weekly roundup. Should be here either today or tomorrow morning.
