Vlambeer's action roguelike Nuclear Throne adds local two-player co-op

Dev is still experimenting with four-player and online support.

Super Crate Box, Ridiculous Fishing and Luftrausers developer Vlambeer's upcoming action roguelike Nuclear Throne now features two-player local co-op.

The developer announced this new feature on Nuclear Throne's Steam Greenlight page, where it debuted a new trailer to commemorate its PAX East showing over the weekend.

When asked if co-op would support more players or online options down the road, Vlambeer's Rami Ismail told me, "The version available on Early Access right now supports local multiplayer for two players. We do have plans to see if we can support four players, but we'll have to see how that works out before we want to commit to support for more players."

"As for online multiplayer, we're looking into that possibility, but it seems extremely complex for a game as precise and twitch-based as Nuclear Throne. We don't think it'll happen, but we'll keep researching what the possibilities are."

Nuclear Throne has been available on Steam Early Access since October, where it's priced at £9.99 / $12.99. You can also buy it through the Humble Store or on Twitch.tv via Nuclear Throne's official site. Doing so here comes with an added subscription to Vlambeer's Twitch channel where the developer provides livestreams every Tuesday and Thursday.

Console ports of Nuclear Throne are being developer for PS3, PS4, Vita and Xbox One.

Our Chris Donlan had a go at Nuclear Throne when it first popped up on Steam Early Access. He really liked it, and can explain his first impressions over gameplay footage in his Let's Play video below.
