Warzone puzzle ends with teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Reveal set for Verdansk later in August.
Activision has released a teaser for Black Ops Cold War, confirming a full reveal on 26th August for 2020's new Call of Duty game.
Warzone players had worked to solve a variety of puzzles on a website that played videos of Cold War footage and interviews throughout the weekend and this week, and clues to open various bunkers in Verdansk, the name of the Warzone map.
Last night, this all led to the release of the first teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which is co-developed by Black Ops studio Treyarch, and Raven Software.
The teaser does not show the game off, but does set the scene. It includes real-world interview footage with a Cold War-era KGB defector called Yuri Bezmenov. We're told Bezmenov has issued a warning about a Soviet spy codenamed Perseus, who has infiltrated western intelligence and is plotting to subvert the US in order to ensure Soviet dominance in the arms race. It seems reasonable to expect Black Ops Cold War's campaign will follow this plot.
With the explosive popularity of Warzone, Activision has turned to its free-to-download battle royale to announce Black Ops Cold War. The video's description reads: "Verdansk. August 26," which suggests players who log in at a specific time on that day will get some sort of Black Ops Cold War reveal in-game.
