Xbox Series X's Quick Resume works some of the time, every time

Speed limit.

When Quick Resume works on Xbox Series X, the effect is almost magical. A game I was playing hours, perhaps days ago, springs back to life within seconds - even if I was just playing something else.

You know when it's about to happen, too. In the top right of your screen, a little label pops up. "QUICK RESUME", the label boasts. But what it's really saying is... "JUST SEE HOW FAST THIS IS". You can't. The game's already loaded.

Truly, it is invigorating, but here's the thing - it doesn't always happen. If Paul Rudd's cologne works 60 per cent of the time, all the time, Quick Resume feels only slightly better than that.

So, what's going on? Well, despite working with "1000's of games", Xbox tech exec Jason Ronald said the feature had been "temporarily disabled" for some games which were experiencing issues. And even then, there are limits to how many of your games can be Quick Resumed at any one time.

It's a brilliant feature - though one which I have experienced some issues with even on games where it is enabled. Take Assassin's Creed Valhalla, for example, which certainly does support Quick Resume but which sometimes does not seem to completely wake up from it. I've noticed it's online services don't always reconnect (which, while I rarely use them, gives me annoying warning messages that the services have not connected anyway).

How often has Quick Resume done the job for you?
