You can now buy Battlefield 4 Battlepacks
New microtransactions cause a stir.
DICE has announced that you can now buy Battlefield 4 Battlepacks with real world cash.
Battlepacks, which contain a mix of in-game items, can still be earned through normal gameplay progression, DICE said in a post on Battlelog, but the developer is now "giving players the option" to buy them "as a shortcut to catch up with their friends on the Battlefield".
You can buy Bronze ($1), Silver ($2) and Gold ($3) Battlepacks at Origin.com, Battlelog.com, through the in-game store, at Xbox Live Marketplace and at the PlayStation Store.
Battlepacks can contain anything from weapon accessories to XP boosts. DICE insists they don't give anyone gameplay advantages, but instead "let players tailor their Battlefield 4 experiences with more customisation options".
The announcement caused quite a stir within the Battlefield community, with many criticising EA and DICE for launching the microtransactions at a time when Battlefield 4 still suffers from gameplay issues.
"Wow..." Battlelog user alcatraz669 said. "The game has so many rage inducing connection issues yet they are still trying to bleed money out of us... nice."
User Ragnarok013 has another view, however: "This is no different than the Spectre packs in Mass Effect 3. If you don't want to buy them don't because you can still earn your Battlepacks in game."
