Zelda - Keo Ruug and Fateful Stars trial solution in Breath of the Wild
How to beat the Woodlands challenge.
Keo Ruug is one of the many Shrines located throughout Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The challenge inside, named the Fateful Stars trial, is a puzzle that has you place balls in the right places. Get it right, and you can walk out a victor.
If you need help finding and solving other Shrines, our Shrine location maps page can help, while our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide covers other aspects of the game.
Where to find Keo Ruug
Keo Rugg is located within the Woodlands region, specifically inside Korok Forest. To get there, you need to traverse the Lost Woods, a mysterious place that will reset your progress if you take a wrong turn - unless you know the Lost Woods route, of course.
Once you're at the Korok Forest, it's best to at least activate this shrine so you can fast travel to this small village again in future, especially for when you want to finally secure the Master Sword.
The Keo Ruug shrine is to the east - or right of where you enter the Korok Forest - next to the base of the Great Deku Tree. No puzzles to solve, just walk up, insert the Slate, and it's yours to return to.
Keo Ruug and Fateful Stars trial solution
Head up the steps and read the stone tablet for the clue, 'Look to the stars for guidance. The constellations are the key."
The puzzle components are either side of these central steps, with rows of glowing red recesses in the ground, and two balls each you can pick up place inside them. The challenge is to put the balls into the right recesses to continue.
To solve the puzzle, observe the constellations on the wall at the end of each row, and see how often they appear at the far wall from the edge of the stairs.
So you'll notice the first row has a constellation with three points do it. There are five such constellations on that back wall with three points, so you put it in the back most recess, which means five. (The front, as indicated by the lamps on the sides, means one, and counts back.)
