Zelda: Skyward Sword - How to win the Wing Ceremony, meeting Fi and the Goddess Sword location explained

Events take a turn for the turbulent.

The Wing Ceremony in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is an important part of Skyloft tradition, which, now you've found the Crimson Loftwing, you can compete in.

Winning the Wing Ceremony will only result in you earning the Sailcloth, but will grant you some special alone time with Zelda.

This peace won't last long though and you'll soon meet Fi who will bring you to the Goddess Sword's location, so you can begin your journey to the surface world.

How to win the Wing Ceremony in Zelda: Skyward Sword

To become a knight, and impress Zelda, you need to win the Wing Ceremony in Skyward Sword.

A good tactic for catching up with the golden bird is to stay either on it's left or right-hand side. This will help you track it's movement and, by using a Burst Charge to cut corners, you can get closer to your target.

You can also try flying high above the bird, so you can drive down towards it at an increased speed. This does, however, run the risk of the bird either flying beneath you or turning in the opposite direction making it harder to reach.

Try to save one Burst Charge for when you're close to the golden bird too, because this will give you the extra push you need to grab the statue.

When you're close enough to the bird a prompt for catching the statue will appear at the bottom of the screen. This is your sign to press A as quickly as possible before the bird escapes your grasp.

The first time you attempt to grab the statue your efforts will be thwarted by Groose, causing the golden bird to slip from your grasp.

You will once again find yourself at a distance away from the bird, but this time Groose and his friends will throw eggs at you. These eggs are easy to avoid, but, if one hits you, Link's Loftwing will be stunned for a couple of seconds.

Groose and his friends may also charge their birds towards you if you fly too close to them, which, again, will stun your bird for a number of seconds. Like the eggs, however, they are easy to avoid.

Simply carry on using the same tactics as before and you'll be able to catch up with the golden bird to earn your prize.

Don't worry if you're still getting used to the flying controls - it's literally impossible to lose the Wing Ceremony, so feel free to take your time.

How to use the Sailcloth in Zelda: Skyward Sword

Having won the Wing Ceremony in Skyward Sword, Zelda will now give you her handmade Sailcloth before pushing you off the Goddess Statue.

You may find landing in the circle difficult at first, since Link can be easily moved off course. The trick is to make small movements and, once you're lined up, open your Sailcloth as quickly as possible.

Don't worry if you miss the circle on your first attempt! You'll simply return to the top of the statue and Zelda will allow you to jump off of your own accord this time. This actually makes this task a little easier, because you'll have more time to line up with the circle.

Meeting Fi and the Goddess Sword location in Zelda: Skyward Sword explained

With Zelda missing, Fi decides it's time to make her debut in Skyward Sword and, let's be honest, who hasn't followed a ghostly woman out into the darkness of midnight?

You'll follow Fi to the Goddess Statue ruins, only to discover that somebody has barred the way. Thankfully, Fi has a solution and will guide you down the right-hand path.

The night is dangerous, however, but luckily you're not alone and still have the Practice Sword, which can be used to dispatch any Keese or Chuchu you encounter. The creature you truly need to look out for, however, is Mia the Remlit.

While Remlits might be cute and cuddly during the day, at night they become the embodiment of rage and will attack you on sight. They can be scared away with a blow from your blade but never truly killed, so always remain on your guard when exploring Skyloft at night.

Mia will be the first foe you encounter during this trip to the statue and, once she's stunned, you can either take the lower path to open a chest containing 20 Rupees or simply continue on your path by using the ledge to round the cliff.

Once there, you need to dash up the dirt slope, kill the Keese and Chuchu before jumping across to the island on your right. From the top of this island, you'll then be able to jump onto the nearby vines, which, once climbed, will bring you to the Goddess Statue.

Fi will now open the way to the hidden chamber inside the Goddess Statue where you'll find the Goddess Sword awaiting for you. Now all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the cutscene, performing the Skyward Strike when prompted.

Preparing to leave Skyloft in Zelda: Skyward Sword explained

The time has come to breach the cloudbank and descend to the surface world to search for Zelda!

First, you'll want to ensure you're properly prepared for the trials ahead, so take the time to find a shield, vist the bazaar and stock your Adventure Pouch.

If this is your first time playing Skyward Sword, then we highly recommend visiting our guides on both the Adventure Pouch and the shield. Both of these features work differently compared to past Zelda games, so it's a good idea to know exactly how they work.

You'll receive the Adventure Pouch for Fledge and can receive a shield for free from Owlan who is standing outside of the Knight's Academy. Visiting the potion shop in the bazaar will also allow you to collect your first empty bottle!

Don't waste your time, however, trying to reach Beedle's Airshop, because, for now, it will be constantly out of reach.

With these preparations complete, it's time to head to the pillar of green light, so you can dive down to the Sealed Grounds!
