Widowmaker

Widowmaker, formerly Amelie Lacroix, is one of the faces - the evil faces - of Overwatch, and yet the interpretations of her aren't drastically different from how she looks in the game. I suppose when a character wears a skin-tight, half unzipped catsuit, and speaks in sultry French tones, that's to be expected - but it's nice to see her in a different light nonetheless. Honourable mentions to Rika Mello's vulnerable Widowmaker, Guzzardi's painterly Widowmaker, and Shmagomolova's inventive Wednesday Adams-like portrait of Widowmaker back when she was Amelie Lacroix (the artist has given other Overwatch characters similar treatment).

An expression open to interpretation.

The brittle, waiflike look.

Symmetra

There isn't much non-sexy fan art for Symmetra, which is a shame, but she tends to be an undervalued character in the game as well. Nevertheless, the first picture included below may well be my pick of the lot. Honourable mentions to Jasamo's expressive Symmetra and mintycanoodle's print-like Symmetra,

That great explosion of hair!

Artist: James Zapata (jameszapata on DeviantArt, and his personal website).

There's a whole series of these tribal interpretations of Overwatch characters by the same artist, and they're lovely.

Artist: Vaggelis Arabatzoglou (vaggeloglou on DeviantArt).

Zenyatta

Tekartha Zenyatta, in his position as spiritual leader of the Shambali omnics, who are at the forefront of the peace movement between humans and omnics, may be one of the most influential figures in all of Overwatch's lore. He also happens to be a favourite of mine in the game itself. He's a floating robo-monk who preaches some very poignant truths. Honourable mentions to Azagath's re-interpretation of the iconic Saigon monk sacrifice, which is risky but relevant to the game's setting; to Tsabo6's almost ethereal Zenyatta with the haunting stare, and to Ragora57's Zenyatta with the lovely orange trousers.

Commissioned for the 21 Days of Overwatch fan art campaign.

Artist: Justin Currie (ChasingArtwork on DeviantArt).

It's as if the viewer is hypnotised by Zenyatta's power.

Artist: Anato Finnstark (Anato Finnstark on DeviantArt, also on Patreon, Facebook).

Reaper

Gabriel Reyes, the Overwatch leader turned bad - turned supervillain. So much is unknown about his transformation into Reaper, what lies behind that mask, and it's a shame scarcely anyone - two attempts in hundreds - has attempted in picture to answer that. His mask can only express so much. Nevertheless as prime baddie Reaper has no shortage of admirers. Honorable mentions to Guzzardi's paint-splattered Reaper, John Yau's shadow-black Reaper, and, at the other end of the scale, Javier Eng's cartoon Reaper - one of a few Overwatch pieces he's done.

The angle, the sharp edges - the menace.

Artist: Jason Nguyen (JasonTN on DeviantArt).

Reaper in the sky with die-die-die-monds.

Artist: Vlad Botos (GreenTaldarin on DeviantArt).

Winston

Winston, the de facto leader of present day Overwatch, the gorilla scientist who grew up on the moon - and who never stopped believing. He isn't drawn particularly often, sadly. Honourable mentions to Picolo-kun's commissioned, raging Winston; to Nesskain's raging Winston; and to liea's adorable picture of baby Winston in Mercy's arms.

The two sides of Winston.

Artist: Alex Chow (Alex-Chow on DeviantArt).

Fantastic strength and weight to this bestial leap.

Artist: Claudio Pilia on DeviantArt.

Genji

The youngest of two sons of the Japanese organised crime family, Shimada. He was the brother who wouldn't toe the line, the brother who fell at the hands of the other and was presumed dead - only to be rebuilt by Overwatch as half-man, half-cyborg. But what's underneath that mask? We got a gruesome glimpse in the wonderful Dragons animated short but artists haven't taken it further. Shame! Honorable mentions to Crimson-Seal's dazzlingly colourful Genji dragon attack, and to Quirkilicious' always-colourful take on Genji.

Hard, notched, metallic edges.

Artist: Sergey (fear-sAs on DeviantArt)

Swoosh, swish, you're dead.

Artist: Anato Finnstark (Anato Finnstark on DeviantArt, also on Patreon, Facebook)

Hanzo

Hanzo couldn't live with himself after destroying his brother and left his family and a life of organised crime behind. But will he and his brother ever make up? Hanzo, with his chest bared and muscles rippling, is as popular in Overwatch fan art land as he is for getting Play of the Game in Overwatch itself. Honourable mentions to Dao's eerie young Hanzo, SiaKim's reclining Hanzo - and SiaKim's Hanzo and Genji, and Jacky5493's Hanzo unleashing an ultimate attack.

Determined or troubled?

Artist: Stanley Lau (Artgerm on DeviantArt)

So much emotion and colour.

Artist: Stephen (Crimson-Seal on DeviantArt).
