Trickster and the Paramina Run Hunt location and requirements
Before you get to the actual battle, here's everything you need to know about Trickster and the Paramina Run Hunt:
- Prerequisites: arrive at Mt. Bur-Omisace
- Recommended level: 46
- Petitioner location: Gurdy, Mt. Bur-Omisace
- Mark location: Paramina Rift, Frozen Brook
- Reward: 4800 Gil, Deimos Clay
Gurdy is a Moogle and he can be found lurking around near the Chocobo on the western side of the Sandstrewn Pass in Mt. Bur-Omisace. Speak to him, then head back to the Paramina Pass and head south into Frozen Brook. Monid, the guy who chimed in when you accepted the Mark form Montblac, will be waiting for you. If he says anything other than “It should be close now, but this is no mark to be taken lightly” then leave the area and re-enter - it may take a few goes.
Head down the slope to the frozen lake below and deal with a few of the enemies there - Trickster will appear from out of nowhere after 30 seconds or so, so the fewer other things attacking you the better.
Trickster strategies and how to defeat it
If you want to inflict him with Slow or Blind get them in as early as possible as he'll cast White Wind soon after the fight starts and become immune to them - slowing him down and otherwise handicapping him makes life a lot easier.

The problems with this fight are many and varied, but the most difficult aspect is actually targetting him in the first place - he will vanish into thin air and reappear somewhere else without warning, and if you were in the middle of winding up for an attack you'll lose your lock and have to start again. He'll always return to his spawn area, though, so it's easier to stay put and wait for him to come back than it is chasing him around.
On top of being hard to hit at all, his elemental weakness and absorption change randomly so if you're using magic Bio is the only safe option - if you manage to hit him with the correct element he'll cast Shift and change it, and if you guess incorrectly you may end up healing him rather than doing damage.
When his HP gets critical he'll throw up a Paling and become immune to physical damage for a while, but it will eventually wear off so wait it out and sooner or later he'll be done.
Return to Gurdy for your reward. A decent amount of Gil, but another item that's no use in and of itself.
