Diablo 3 on Switch plays just how you want it to
The devil finds work for idle hands.
Diablo 3 has come a long way since its launch in 2012. It's skipped from PC to consoles to next-generation consoles, shedding its universally despised Auction House feature and gaining new expansions, new modes, new hero classes and, crucially, new monsters to kill and new loot to scoop up and hoard away. Six years on, can yet another release on the Nintendo Switch - the Diablo 3: Eternal Collection - tempt players to pay for the same game a third or even fourth time? Well, it's Diablo 3, and all the ultra-satisfying demon-smashing and loot-hoovering that entails, available online or offline on your commute, so - yeah, almost definitely.

"How did it sell? Oh…"
You'd think the developer of a game with millions of players and positive reviews wouldn't have a hard time convincing a publisher to front up the cash for a sequel. But for the makers of Velocity 2X, they haven't just had a hard time of it - they've hit a brick wall.

Feature | A team of Dota 2-playing AI bots beat the pros - and now they're gunning for more
I need your clothes, your boots and your courier.
On 5th August, five expert Dota 2 players sat down to play against a team of bots created by non-profit research lab OpenAI. They lost decisively. Just a few days from now that same team of bots, perhaps with the benefit of a few more weeks of training, will appear on stage at the biggest tournament in Dota 2 - The International - and play against a team of the world's best professional players. Winning there that would be a huge victory, a milestone for both AI and the games industry, and after seeing the bots' performance earlier this month it seems like the most likely outcome. You might be forgiven for feeling like this was the end of an era for game AI as we know it.

Digital Foundry | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 3GB review: the best budget graphics card?
A cut-back design offers up surprisingly decent performance.
Snuck out a few weeks back, the GeForce GTX 1050 3GB has been met with some degree of bafflement and bewilderment from the PC hardware press, but choose the right model - like the Gigabyte example reviewed here - and you have the best entry-level budget GPU on the market. As things stand, our only major criticism of the vanilla GTX 1050 is its meagre 2GB of framebuffer memory - not enough for console-quality textures on many games. This revised model beefs up processing power and adds that crucial extra gig of RAM, but it comes with a sting in the tail - memory bandwidth drops significantly, meaning a performance penalty in some games.

Feature | My summer fling with Suikoden
Perfect circle.
"Circle, circle, circle, circle." It's hardly the catchiest of chants, is it? And yet it was a pivotal part of summer, 1997 - a summer spent playing Suikoden with my friend, Tom. You may well have not heard of Suikoden before. It's generally the game I mention to people in passing and they're left thinking how it rings a vague bell but that's about it. If I'm lucky. From what I can gather, it's better known in the USA (and Japan, of course!), but it's a title and franchise that few in the UK will know as well as many other JRPGs.

Digital Foundry | Hands-on with the deluxe PS4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition
Plus: are new Pros quieter than launch consoles?
As a piece of hardware designed for the core gamer and die-hard fan, it's been a little surprising how little Sony has leveraged PlayStation 4 Pro in terms of ultra-desirable, collector-centric special release consoles - a situation it aims to put right with the imminent release of the 500 Million Limited Edition, a £450 offering that combines a super-deluxe translucent machine with a range of upgrades and bespoke peripherals, including a 2TB hard drive, matching Dual Shock 4 and PlayStation Camera, plus vertical stand. Having received a unit on loan for a short time last week, it's a seriously desirable piece of hardware.
