Video | Watch: Johnny bakes lava cookies from Pokémon
Fancy Unova?
If you've been keeping up with our weekly cooking series Chiodini's Kitchen, you'll know I've been stuck in a bit of a Breath of the Wild rut recently - there's something about the way Link cooks in his new open world adventure that's really exciting. While I feel like I could explore the ins and outs of Hyrulian cuisine forever, I'm aware there are plenty of other games worthy of coverage in the kitchen.

Tonight's Eurogamer Assetto Corsa Championship race is Mexico City
The second event kicks off tonight at 7.35pm UK - watch it here.
Last week's opening race of the Eurogamer Assetto Corsa Championship at Imola was pretty entertaining, despite two botched starts due to big pileups. The ensuing race was a cool display of skill from many drivers, in particular Hany Alsabti for his dominant win for the Thrustmaster Black team. Very solid, also, were Jackub Charkot of the Polish Ragnar Feeder Simulator team, who placed second, and Kamil Franzack's third place in the only Thrustmaster White car, subbing for the absent David Greco. (The Italian driver will be back at the wheel tonight.)

Feature | Tokyo 42 and the unkillable charm of isometric gaming
A timeless angle.
Hardware generations come and go, graphics processing techniques tumble into and out of fashion, but the allure of so-called "isometric visuals" refuses to wane. Last year saw the release of Gareth Noyce's Lumo, a tidy little 450-room throwback puzzler starring a chubby wizard, that harkens back to the fixed vantage points and tile-based environments of 8-bit classics like Head over Heels. This spring has already given us Torment: Tides of Numenera, InXile's tribute to the pick of Infinity Engine RPGs. And later this year you'll get to play Tokyo 42, an open world assassination game which unfolds on an airborne, plastic city of exhilaratingly jammed-together architectural styles, rendered in 3D but with a zoomed-out, semi-manual camera that calls to mind the original Syndicate.

Space Hulk: Deathwing just got a big new update
New weapons and a raft of technical improvements.
Space Hulk: Deathwing came out in December 2016 and while I enjoyed it, it was pretty rough around the edges, with a number of technical issues and a lack of variation hindering what was on the whole a solid effort at bringing the Space Hulk tabletop to life in video game form.

Discovering a new magical moment in VR
CCP finds a Sparc.
The second coming of VR has been built around magic moments. Come meet the dinosaur on Oculus Dreamdeck! Hang out with the shark in VR Worlds! Experience the virtual k-hole that is Rez Infinite! The novelty might be wearing a little thin after 12 months on the shelves and in our living rooms, but this is still a medium that has the capacity to delight and surprise. At GDC a couple of weeks ago I was witness to another magic moment that convinced me there might be something to this VR lark after all.

Feature | How Dishonored 2 hides its best details in the periphery
The Arkane arts.
Dishonored 2 begins by throwing you in a locked office against your will, trapped and unarmed. An open window across the room teases the possibility of escape, so - once you're done rifling through the room, reading discarded notes and idly spinning a globe - you climb onto the ledge outside. There, you are teased with a vista of smokestacks and gothic spires. You can taste freedom, but a huge pipe blocks your path. You head back inside, and it's only then that you realise there's another window, closed, just across the room. Open it up and slip outside, and that promise of freedom is fulfilled.

Machinists carve Triforce into a Switch, sell it for nearly double the price
"Possibly the most durable console you can buy right now."
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it looks like as beautiful as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is, there are some who are more enamoured by a broken Switch with a Triforce carved into it. At least the only one of these in existence sold for nearly double the price of a working console.

New Reservoir Dogs game doesn't have much in common with Reservoir Dogs
I got the feeling that something ain't right.
Quentin Tarantino's breakthrough 1992 debut Reservoir Dogs doesn't exactly scream video game adaptation. The tale of a botched heist where someone is a mole is a splendid whodunnit where a ragtag crew of codenamed goons question how everything went pear-shaped. Set almost entirely in a single location, Reservoir Dogs is a very talky film. There's violence, sure, but nothing in the way of a typical action sequence. Nothing that could easily be translated into a video game.

Digital Foundry | I am Setsuna on Switch is a visual match for PS4
1080p on both, with frame-rate the only tangible difference.
The gulf in raw rendering power between Switch and PlayStation 4 means that Nintendo's hardware is unlikely to be receiving the latest current-gen triple-A blockbusters. However, less technologically ambitious titles still have much to offer - and these games are a closer for match for Switch's capabilities. On top of that, the new Nintendo machine's ability to double up as both home console and handheld can help to offset compromises in technology elsewhere: what you lose in terms of sheer processing power is mitigated by the ability to play whenever you want, wherever you want. Square-Enix's I am Setsuna is a fascinating example of what Switch can offer on multi-platform titles.
