Feature | Miitomo: Nintendo's attempt to clean up social media
Like?
Harassment, hoaxes, mob justice, public shaming, doxing, citizen journalism, disinformation, snuff, celebrity breakdowns, racist chat-bots, joke plagiarism and an endless stream of delectable cat gifs. The effects of the rise of social media on humanity are myriad, varied and - let's give them the benefit of the doubt - unforeseen by the creators of these ubiquitous platforms. What a time for Nintendo to launch its own variant, when the company's American office is embroiled in a publicity storm that is playing out, principally, on Twitter.

Digital Foundry | Samsung Galaxy S7 review
Seventh heaven.
Last year, we applauded Samsung's apparent willingness to listen to its critics and change the way it makes smartphones. The result was the wonderful Galaxy S6, a premium metal-and-glass handset more than capable of going toe-to-toe with Apple in the desirability stakes - and one of the most powerful phones of 2015. The positive reception afforded to its appearance makes it easy to understand why Samsung - still clearly keen to take on feedback, despite its status as the world's biggest manufacturer of smartphones - has decided to borrow a page out of Apple and HTC's book by retaining the same design language for a second year, albeit with some minor modifications. Oh, and those elements Samsung cruelly removed from the S6 - such as expandable storage and a waterproof casing - are back too. This feels more like an "S6S" then, but Apple's strategy appears to have worked well enough over the years, so one can hardly blame Samsung for aping the approach.

Feature | What would you uninvent about modern games?
x-y=?
Dual-wielding: for a while, that seemed like the way games moved forward. What's better than holding one gun? Holding two! Good scrum everybody! But progress is a complex business, and while a lot of design is about adding new elements to the mix, what happens when you start to take things away?

Digital Foundry | Tech Analysis: Quantum Break
Digital Foundry on what works and what doesn't in Remedy's latest.
It's been years in the making, but Remedy's Quantum Break is finally ready. The Finnish team's love of slow-motion will seemingly never die - and it finds a good home this time in a time-bending action title that focuses on moving in and out of time while shooting your way through a character-driven narrative. Within minutes of starting the game it becomes evident that Quantum Break is one of the most impressive looking titles on Xbox One. In a move that exudes confidence, the press has been given access to the game for weeks now - something of a rarity these days - and that has given us plenty of time to fully appreciate just what's on offer. It's not surprising that a lot of controversy has formed around the resolution of the game but as the fervour around this issue dies down, hopefully the wider range of its technical ambition can come into focus.

Video | Watch: Why does VR give some people motion sickness?
Here's this week's Eurogamer Show.
Hello! Let's talk about puking, shall we? Did you know the oldest word in the English language for throwing up is actually not the medical term vomit, but actually spew? It comes from the Anglo-Saxon word spēowan. Gosh I'm glad I did all those medieval units at university, they've come in so handy.

Feature | Why virtual reality is the future
By Ellie Gibson, lawnmower woman.
I am immediately suspicious of people who say you must try something to find out if you like it. I have been told this about many things over the course of my life: snowboarding, whisky, karaoke, bottom sex, olives. I have tried all these things. I like one of them.

Road Redemption slated for PC this summer

UPDATE 01/04/2016 10.56pm: DarkSeas Games has clarified to Eurogamer that the Wii U version of Road Redemption is still in development and it will include GamePad support for local multiplayer without splitscreen. Review | Adr1ft review
Re-entry level.
When Adr1ft was announced at the end of 2014, the initial reports immediately compared it to Alfonso Cuarón's spatially dazzling thriller Gravity. At first glance this is not an unfair comparison. Both are near-future space adventures which are aesthetically similar, blending the deep black of space with the harsh whites of human endeavour and dramatic views of Earth in orbit. Moreover, both have become flagships for 3D, with Gravity helping to sell plastic glasses for cinemas and Adr1ft helping to sell plastic boxes for Oculus.

Feature | In Play: The new new thing
Apologies to Michael Lewis.
There was a Killer Instinct 2 cabinet in the bar of my student union. I never played it - I can't remember anyone playing it - but I do remember being dazzled all the same: the metallic sheen on the text, the swing of a character's hair, the way that the Nintendo and Rare logos both rotated in three dimensions. (I've just realised afresh that I went to university a long time ago.) Killer Instinct 2 was stuck behind a pool table at the back of the room, but it was still a beauty: everything about it reminded you that here was the new thing.
