Feature | Rich Stanton on: Year Walk and the future Nintendo predicted
Finally Wii U makes sense.
This week saw the release of Year Walk for Wii U, a game first released in 2012. Developed by Swedish studio Simogo, initially for iOS and later for PC, this definitive version has been handled by Welsh Wii U wizards Dakko Dakko - and has the power to stop you cold. This is not, as I first thought, just a great game. This is the game that finally made me understand what Nintendo thought the future looked like when it was designing Wii U.

Digital Foundry | How to exploit PlayStation TV to run all Vita titles
Email attachment 'hack' opens up a range of new titles for Sony's beleaguered micro-console.
Life as a PlayStation TV owner can be pretty frustrating - especially when a vast array of mobile Vita titles that should work just fine on the under-utilised micro-console fail to load at all, blocked by their lack of inclusion on Sony's whitelist of approved titles. Now, a new exploit from a hacker known as Mr Gas changes everything. By sending yourself a couple of specially prepared attachments and opening them within the Vita's email client, PlayStation TV should - in theory - allow you to play any of your existing library of mobile Vita titles.

Video: Nolan North talks about the realities of video game acting
Plus, Nathan Drake's butt.
You don't need me to tell you that Nolan North is a ubiquitous figure in gaming. He's been busy lending his voice to every major gaming franchise from Uncharted and Assassin's Creed to the Batman Arkhamverse and Call of Duty for years. So it's safe to say he's learned a thing or two about video game acting, and he's been kind enough to sit down with us and talk us through his experiences, specifically during production of the Uncharted series. It's worth a watch; not only is he a super nice guy keen to pull back the curtain on the 'glamour' of voice acting, his insights on how Naughty Dog make Drake's famously off-the-cuff dialogue feel natural are just really interesting.

Umbrella Corps isn't the Resident Evil game you were hoping for
But will it be any good?
You could feel the anticipation build when Masachika Kawata took to the stage at Sony's Tokyo Game Show conference last week to make an announcement. You could even feel that anticipation, still, after the somewhat flat reveal of a new logo that Capcom would be using throughout the 20th anniversary of its most famous series, Resident Evil. It's okay Capcom - we'll happily see you unveil all the logos in the world if you're teeing up something new. Everyone in the auditorium was too polite to speak out, but you could feel their hearts pumping to the same beat: 'Seven, seven, seven, seven.'

Assassin's Creed Syndicate has learned from Unity's mistakes, but is that enough?
Industrial evolution.
I'm sat in Wapping Power Station at half nine in the morning listening to Ubisoft talk about Assassin's Creed Syndicate. The surroundings are fittingly Victorian, dotted with industrial machinery that likely once ran on adorable orphan labour. Creative director Marc-Alexis Côté is telling us how the game introduces its two main characters, Jacob and Evie Frye, and why his team are excited about Syndicate's London setting. But everyone sat listening really has just one question they want answering - can Syndicate revitalise the franchise following Assassin's Creed Unity?

Recommended | Destiny: The Taken King review
Ghost in the machine.
When is the best time to review an expansion for a massively multiplayer online game? If you ask developer Bungie, they'll tell you Destiny isn't an MMO, but its shared-world questing and shooting, its collecting and grinding and levelling and looting, make it similar enough that there is little real distinction. And with The Taken King, Bungie has embraced a new vision for Destiny - one that many hoped it would deliver last September - following an overhaul, expansion and polish for the game.
