    Infectious.

The Earth's only real problem, it has often been observed, is humanity. Plague Inc. thus offers the opportunity to save the planet by eradicating our species from existence, giving you control over the evolutions and mutations of various infectious diseases - the means to spread, and then the tools to finish the job. The only obstacles are medical science, hand-washing, and occasionally air filters.

Lara Croft! Hideo Kojima! Busy week for the OxBox heroes.

Hello Eurogamers! It's March, which means, like a participant in the world's most protracted game of strip poker, we're removing another layer in anticipation of spring. It also means that the flow of new game reveals and releases has picked up again after the barren winter months.

And with all its graphical settings pushed to the max, Crysis 3 on PC effectively offers a "next-gen now" experience - a preview of the level of technical prowess we should expect in the years to come from the new wave of consoles, but an experience that can be appreciated now by those willing to invest in top-end PC components.

Opinion | Saturday Soapbox: Voting with your wallets isn't the whole answer to abusive micro-transactions

Cliff Bleszinski makes a reasonable point, but there's more to it.

Do you read Cliff Bleszinski's blog? You should! It's really smart and interesting, which isn't much of a surprise from a guy who spent 20 years making games like Unreal and Gears of War - deceptively brainy action titles full of bright and influential ideas. (I still can't believe no one's ripped off Active Reload.)

    Pucking fantastic.

Even the name has perfect symmetry. Olo is one of the classiest productions you'll ever see on iOS, a minimalist multiplayer game that's as achingly gorgeous as it is perfectly tuned. I know I'm throwing around superlatives like confetti here, but there's no denying it: Olo, in the common parlance, is a beaut.

    Review | The Bridge review

    Let's twist again.

The cloying grasp of formula doesn't just tangle up the big bloaty blockbusters at the high profile end of the gaming spectrum. Even humble indies can be just as susceptible to cliché, as this charming but slight physics puzzler demonstrates. Originally developed as a student project in 2011, but only now finding commercial release, The Bridge is clearly a game created in the shadow of Braid.

Anomaly 2 announced by 11 bit studios

So THAT'S the surprise game one could have pre-ordered for half-off.

A couple of weeks ago 11 bit studios offered an interesting promotion where fans of the studio could pre-order its unannounced upcoming game for half-off. Not everyone took so kindly to the promotion - which I thought was strange as it was only an option and the studio suggested anyone on the fence should wait - but now all the speculation has come to an end as 11 bit announced today that it's working on Anomaly 2, the sequel to its hit "tower offense" game Anomaly: Warzone Earth.

Well it looks like Capcom and Nintendo heard your feedback and have decided to allow European and North American players to play together in up to four-player battles as part of a free update to the Wii U version to arrive in April.

Feature | Project Awakened: The origin story

After six turbulent years, Phosphor Games' super-powered vision has landed on Kickstarter.

More than fancy boots or crazy powers, the one thing every superhero needs is an origin story: a tale of youthful adversity and the slow, awkward scramble towards triumph. Spider-Man was bullied at school and then bitten by a bug. Batman watched his parents gunned down after leaving Zorro. Captain America... um... let's just say he caught his trousers on a magic nail or something? That sounds about right.
