Digital Foundry | Nintendo Wii U review
Does the next-gen start now? Digital Foundry reviews the US Wii U.
It's been a long time since we've produced an import review - thankfully the dark days of console releases separated by months or even years are now a thing of the past - but Nintendo's new Wii U is out now in the USA, almost two weeks ahead of its European debut, and when the opportunity arose for us to acquire a unit ahead of time along with a clutch of games, we jumped at the chance. With that in mind though, before we go any further we need to stress that this review is based entirely on US hardware, so there may well be differences compared to the console you'll be buying. We'll be sure to clue you in on those variations as soon as we get our hands on the UK model, but at the time of writing we've yet to receive one.

Angry Birds Star Wars HD: an intellectual analysis
Star Wars fan Ellie casts a critical eye over Rovio's latest.
Outrageous, that's what it is. Such a travesty to see something so sacred and so much a part of our cultural heritage exploited in this cynical, grasping manner. Every time this once treasured work of unique artistic majesty is refashioned into another mass market abomination, a part of my soul vomits.

Review | Disney's Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two review
The tragic kingdom.
For a period in the 1940s, Mickey Mouse was given ears that worked properly in perspective. It was a concession to shifts in animation styles and the increased fidelity that could be brought to contemporary cartoons, most probably, but it looked weird. It looked awkward, in fact, and it made Mickey look awkward, too. Barely a mouse in any meaningful sense by this stage, the studio's star was having trouble transitioning from the primitive, scribbled energy of the early short films into something a little more elaborate. He was a 2D doodle struggling to cope in an increasingly complex world.

Eurogamer investigates whether Valve's new system is really beneficial to indies.
When Valve launched Steam Greenlight nearly three months ago it was met with great fervor, but also great skepticism. Digital Foundry | Face-Off: Mass Effect 3 Special Edition on Wii U
Nintendo's new console vs. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Over the last six years, developers have sought to find balance in their cross-platform development, weighing up the pluses and minuses of the PS3 and Xbox 360 and looking to strike a good balance between the two. Microsoft concentrates on a stronger graphics core while Sony has put its efforts into an advanced CPU, but on a general level most games these days work out pretty well overall on both machines. With Wii U, the balance in processing power shifts again: Nintendo has beefed up the graphics core beyond current-gen standards, but all the evidence points to a weaker CPU.

Feature | Back on track: the UK racing scene revival
How UK's racing talent rose from the ashes.
Motor racing, despite its roots in France, its scarlet red Italian heart and its current domination at the top tier by a German and a Spaniard, is a very British affair. Review | PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale review
PaRappa the slapper.
The thought of a fighting game featuring a cast of characters plucked from Nintendo's heritage was so unthinkable that for a while its thinker, Mashahiro Sakurai, kept it entirely to himself. Knowing the chances of securing Nintendo's permission to pitch Princess Peach against Luigi in a commercial cat-fight were slim, Sakurai made a prototype of his idea in secret.
