Digital Foundry | Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5 Pro delivers huge image quality improvements at 60fps
Comparable - and better in some respects - than the standard PS5 at 30fps.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a highly acclaimed game - and often a very good looking one. Packing incredible character modelling, highly detailed open world environments, and beautiful, particle-packed combat, the game certainly has some very strong visual highs. However, its performance mode was less impressive, let down by poor image quality fed by lower rendering resolutions and a blurry final resolve - but all that's set to change with the arrival of new Sony hardware.

Review | Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster review - a mixed bag of changes to this zombie classic
I'll be Frank.
Since its debut in 2006, Dead Rising has built its reputation as the zany zombie sandbox game about making your kill counter constantly tick up while using everything and the kitchen sink to smash rotting brains. But as you went about depriving the zombie masses of their putrefying faculties, it quickly became clear that Dead Rising wasn't just another mindless action game, as it tackled themes and issues around US consumerism smartly and seriously.

Feature | Spelunky's Derek Yu talks crafting UFO 50 and creating an entirely fictional developer
"It's a bit overwhelming."
If I had to pin this impossible, improbable thing down, I would tell you that UFO 50 is a game about memory. Or it's a game collection about memory, anyway, as it contains 50 of the things. It's about the memories of what games used to be like in the 8-bit era when a lot of us were kids, but it's also about what it was like to encounter games back then. Maybe you borrowed a bunch of carts from a friend and they picked a few at random. Maybe you found one in a store on sale and it didn't have its instruction manual or box anymore. Maybe you did a Blockbusters haul one Friday and came home with six or seven unknowns to play through and discover.

Review | The Plucky Squire review - the power of imagination
Deskworld.
It's probably strange to accuse a game like The Plucky Squire of realism. This is a game in which a heroic character from a children's fantasy book can leap from the pages and rove around the bedroom desk on which the book was being read. It's a game in which you can move back and forth, from 2D illustration to chunky, squishy 3D in the name of adventure.

Digital Foundry | PS5 Pro vs PC value comparisons are less important than a potentially bleak future for console pricing
Expect next-gen PCs to compete more directly with PlayStation 6.
PlayStation 5 Pro vs PC. Last week, my X/Twitter timeline was packed with value comparisons presented with an increasing level of mania. Is the latest Sony console so overpriced that a PC may actually offer more for your money? From my perspective, there are a couple of ways you can look at this. Firstly, are the costs of console gaming rising so much that a gaming PC is no longer such an expensive alternative? That's a legitimate concern and worth some discussion. However, the actual argument seems to be that potential Pro buyers should opt for a PC instead and for me, that's a less plausible idea. Both formats play games, but fundamentally they are very different things - and believe it or not, potential Pro users may already own a gaming PC and still want a Pro... or simply don't want a PC at all!
