  3. Standing in front of a large green crystal in Brighter Shores.

I never want to discover exactly how much of my life has been spent grinding for experience points. Even discounting all the hours spent training Pokémon, it's still going to be an uncomfortably large number thanks to my 18-year investment in RuneScape. Technically, I could find out at least how much time, down to the minute, I've spent in Gielinor by talking to an NPC called Hans. I don't talk to Hans. I've long accepted that RuneScape is more of a life choice rather than a video game.

  8. Image showing an equasion: a copy of Forspoken plus a PS5 Pro equals question mark

Opinion | The PS5 Pro's major missing feature and a £5 copy of Forspoken has shown me a future I really don't want

I'm sorry, disc drives, I didn't realise how much I needed you until you were gone.

I bought Forspoken on PS5 for £5. I didn't want to play Forspoken at all, but I had £5. Forspoken on PS5 has sat on my desk (complete with character cards) sealed since November 17, 2023. Yes, this was a waste of £5. I'm an idiot who does stuff like this (glances over at a shelf full of Mega Drive games I can't play as I don't own a Mega Drive), but in recent days this pristine copy of a middling PS5 exclusive from Square Enix has started to haunt me. I no longer have a PS5 with a disc drive, so of course I want to play Forspoken more than I've wanted to play any other game in my life.

  14. A woman stands inside a treehouse with two toucans and a djinn sweeping the floor in 30 Birds

The Night Train to Lantern City. Just saying these words out loud immediately conjures an image of a place with warm, hushed lighting spooling out of glazed windows, with billows of steam and smoke misting over the landscape. It's certainly an evocative kind of opening, but 30 Birds goes one better, placing its detective heroine Zig on a train careering through space on tracks made of clouds, heading toward a city made of actual paper lanterns. It's a dreamy and impossible kind of architecture, its inhabitants shifting up and down each lantern's colourful panels and wrapping their 2D bodies around the edges of a very real, 3D space, with doorways transporting them to other miniature lamp spaces hanging around its periphery. The locals themselves are a little impossible, too, as you'll clock sentient aubergines and disco-loving djinn glyphs, and, of course, a heck of a lot of birds as you saunter through the city's various districts.

  15. the cockpit of a suzuki jimny in gran turismo 7 with the ps5 pro

Digital Foundry | Gran Turismo 7: Polyphony Digital delivers the most comprehensive PS5 Pro upgrade we've seen

8K, more RT, better VR, new image quality options and faster frame-rates.

Gran Turismo 7 remains one of the best-looking games this generation, with remarkably high-quality materials, lighting and visual design. The original PS5 release had its limitations though, with limited RT deployment and VR relying on asychronous time warp to the detriment of motion clarity. With the PS5 Pro, there's clearly plenty of potential to deploy the extra horsepower, RT acceleration and PSSR in new and interesting ways. Happily, developer Polyphony Digital has implemented basically everything on our wish list and more in one of the best PS5 Pro patches we've seen yet. Buckle up, this is going to be good!
