Tokyo Jungle Preview: Welcome to Sony's Surreal Gem
We've got fun and games.
I always knew Tokyo Jungle would be ridiculous. Here's a game where you play as a host of wildlife in a post-apocalyptic Japan rife with eccentric potential. Maul a chimp as a Pomeranian, hunt tigers as a pig, or play as an ostrich avoiding a gang of hungry, hungry, hippos. As good a concept as you're likely to get, but it's easy to be doubtful about the execution, and early footage that revealed it as a scrappy 2.5D platformer made the design look a little anemic. After spending 30 minutes surviving the mean streets of Shibuya, however, I'm happy to report that Tokyo Jungle isn't just dumb, stupid fun - it's also straight-up fun as well.

Double Drebin.
Comedy is a tricky beast at the best of times, doubly so where games are concerned, as vital elements such as timing and nuance are often left up to the player rather than the creative team. The idea of bringing the distinctive surreal spoofery of The Naked Gun to games is a bold venture then, and it comes as no surprise that DNA Interactive has been unable to recapture that mercurial Zucker Brothers style.

Review | Battlefield 3: Close Quarters Review
Intimate imitation.
Battlefield didn't bother to hide its debt to Modern Warfare when the shooter titans' Part 3s clashed last autumn. In came a single-player campaign full of bombastic set-pieces and a suite of half-baked co-op challenges, sitting awkwardly alongside the epic combat scenarios that long-serving fans expected.

Review | App of the Day: Heroes Call
The waiting game.
I'm not against freemium games by any means - I'm actually just about to recommend you play one of them - but I do think there's something weird about the concept. It's weird that developers, who historically have spent most of their time thinking about how to engage players, have had to start pondering the best ways to frustrate them as well.
