Review | The Texas Chain Saw Massacre review - asymmetric horror where servers are the biggest enemy
A bloody shame.
There are a lot of things you can do in eight minutes. Make a brew. Reply to a couple of emails. Pop to the loo. Eight minutes is a surprisingly long time, actually, and I know this because I've lost loads of eight-minute segments over the last couple of weeks as I sat in front of my PC, trying to play The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

And it's great!
Let's! Revolution! is another of those games that takes Minesweeper and turns it into something a little more elaborate. When I play, I'm pursuing an evil king across a range of different levels, growing more powerful as I go and firing off spells, but also taking damage, making mistakes, and trying to avoid mistakes I can see coming.

Digital Foundry | Red Dead Redemption on Switch: an impressive, creditable port
Better than Xbox 360, comparable to PS4.
The release of Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch opens the gates for more people to enjoy Rockstar's wild west classic and the good news is that the Switch version is an excellent fit for the hardware. Expectations were higher for the PS4 version, but the bottom line is that aside from some more minor disappointments, what you're getting here is essentially a game that looks and plays like the Xbox 360 720p original in handheld mode, which rises to a native 1080p mode when docked.

Feature | Who really told Link it's dangerous to go alone?
Links between worlds.
I've always loved the idea of video game lore, but I've always struggled with the real stuff of keeping track of it and making sense of it all. Partly it's because I have a terrible memory, particularly for names, places, events and dates, so I was always going to have difficulty with following the deep history of Assassin's Creed or the Elder Scrolls. The other reason, though, is because I always feel like I'm arriving late. All the actual archaeology has been done by the time I get there.

No Man's Sky celebrates seventh birthday with tiny tease for next update
More details coming "very soon".
Somewhat alarmingly, No Man's Sky is now seven years old, and developer Hello Games is celebrating the exploratory space sim's latest milestone with a brisk video retrospective and, probably of far more interest to fans, the tiniest of teases for the game's next update. Digital Foundry | Intel delivers a new DX11 driver for Arc GPUs - and a potentially game-changing benchmarking tool
We test the new 'PresentMon' software on the unlikeliest of PCs.
We recently spoke to Intel's Tom 'TAP' Petersen about updates to its DirectX 11 driver for Arc graphics cards and a new, entirely rebuilt version of its PresentMon tool for monitoring system performance. In short, these Arc GPUs continue to improve as Intel shore up support for older graphics APIs, with up to a 19 percentage point increase in average frame-rate in a selection of DX11 games with the release of the latest Arc driver, while the new version of PresentMon - available in beta now - offers some tantalising new possibilities for Digital Foundry and interested consumers alike.

Digital Foundry | Baldur's Gate 3 Act Three massively hits CPU performance - but why?
And is there anything you can do about it?
Shortly after our main Baldur's Gate 3 content 'dropped' last week, I noticed a range of comments suggesting that the further you played into it, the more the performance characteristics changed. Early access veterans wanted more specific testing of the third act in particular and thanks to a game save bestowed upon us by Twitter user DarknessFX, we had access to a 99-hour save and were ready to dive into some stress test performance testing.

Supporters | Game of the week: Dave the Diver's blend of the fixed and the procedural is a recipe for success
Mixtape.
Years back I spent a happy afternoon in No Man's Sky just stood on a single spot. This is ridiculous, I know: No Man's Sky's selling point is the moment you launch yourself from a planet's surface, up into space, through the twisting ether and then down onto the surface of another planet without taking a breath. It's a game about movement, and about leaving a place to know that you'll probably never return to it.
