Feature | What we've been playing - surfing, line-riding and house parties
A few of the things that have us hooked this week.
Hello! Welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing over the past few days. This week I've managed to convice the wonderful Christian Donlan to write it all! Look, he offered, OK? We made a trade, a secret trade. So this week it's a Donlan special, and he's been surfing, connecting lines and throwing house parties (that I wasn't invited to?).

Digital Foundry | Does the big Jedi: Survivor PC patch finally solve the game's performance issues?
Substantial improvements in some areas, but still fundamentally broken.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has received a big update with patch nine, promising improved performance, reduced hitching and presumably a significantly better experience on PC. Does this mean that the game's long-standing performance issues are finally solved, or are its fundamental challenges too great? We've tested the game on a range of hardware to find out and while there are some genuine performance improvements, fundamental problems we've discussed many times now are still highly problematic.

Preview | After playing it all day, Dragon Age: The Veilguard feels like the series' Mass Effect 2 moment
Sheparding it on.
There's a BioWare game I keep coming back to when I think about the several hours I spent playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard - and interviewing BioWare about it - and it's probably not the game you're expecting me to say. It's not Dragon Age: Inquisition and it's not Dragon Age: Origins, or Dragon Age 2, as if I'd have the stones to say that. It's a game from another series the studio is probably better known for, and it's arguably the studio's best: Mass Effect 2.

Interview | What I learned talking to BioWare about Dragon Age: The Veilguard
"I don't think we're ever going to make everyone happy."
I was fortunate enough to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard for several hours recently, exploring multiple missions and trying multiple characters at multiple levels and using differing builds, and it was good, I really liked it. You can read my much lengthier preview impressions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard elsewhere on the site. But here I want to cobble together some of the things I learned while interviewing co-game director John Epler, and taking part in a group Q&A with other lead developers working on the game.

Gotta collect 'em all.
The first pack of Pokémon cards I ever opened was from the original Base set, released in the UK during 1999. (You know the ones which now go for hundreds of pounds on eBay?) It was a gift from my Dad and fully defied my Mum's 'No Pokémon cards' rule. While she had accepted my new-found obsession with its yellow mouse, she believed the cards were a waste of money since there was no guarantee which ones I'd get, and completing my collection involved buying an awful lot of packs. Unfortunately for us both, she was right.
