Review | Battle of the Bands
Wrist Hero.
To the tune of Blitzkrieg Bop, a gang of hillbillies bang double-barreled banjos against an undead Mexican trio known as "Scaryachi". Next, an edgy goth group trades the notes of Feel Good Inc. with a peppy, baton-twirling marching band. Bullet barrages, lightning bolts and grenades arc across either side of the stage, each products of timely Wiimote wagging on your end.

Review | DS Roundup
Shiren the Wanderer, Draglade, Brain Benders, Zoo Hospital, Hurry Up Hedgehog!
Hey. Hey! Hey! Put down that copy of GTA IV. There are other games out there, you know. Not that we'll notice for the next few months. In anticipation of the eventual government crackdown on 'murder simulators', however, we've composed another DS roundup of your typical average-to-bad games. Because somebody has to. Surprisingly this time, one of them is actually rather good. Fancy that. Even the lowly street sweeper comes across a dropped tenner once in a while.

"Drumming as it should be."
What are the chances? With EA ready to roll out the Rock Band European tour in two days, Activision - by stunning coincidence - chooses this week, this very day in fact, to tell the world all about its own seismic new entry into gaming's great battle of the bands. It's 1995 and Blur vs. Oasis all over again. (Country House is still rubbish, by the way [But it won - Ed]).

Review | Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
Regally blonde.
It's funny to think that back when Nintendo announced its WiiWare line-up, the 1500-point (GBP 10.50 / EUR 15) price tag for Square's peculiar role-playing city-builder was the cause of much outrage and hand-wringing. Once you're actually playing the thing, you soon realise it's a small price to pay for a game that could easily have been released on disc at three times that amount without anyone crying foul. My Life as a King is not without flaws, but between this and LostWinds perhaps we'd do better to consider WiiWare a console alternative to Steam rather than a rival to Xbox Live Arcade or PSN.

Interview | Def Leppard's Rick Allen
Talks Guitar Hero, heroin and GTA IV.
The one-armed drummer out of Def Leppard has just offered to make me a cup of tea. He's making himself one anyway, but still. I've interviewed some top celebrities in my time - Keith Chegwin, Phil 'The Power' Taylor, the man who did the engine sounds for MotoGP 2006. All stars in their own right, but none of them belongs to an internationally famous rock band that has sold 65 million records over the course of its 30-year career. Unlike Rick Allen. And unlike Rick Allen, none of them has ever offered to make me a cup of tea.

Review | Lost in Blue 3
You taste like fishbiscuits.
I'm in danger of repeating myself here. First, there was Lost in Blue, which cast you as a male shipwreck survivor on a desert island with a lone female survivor for company. You divided your time between foraging for food to fill the demanding stomachs of your little castaways, babysitting your useless companion so that she didn't die of thirst when you were out fetching carrots, and exploring the island, looking for new materials, tools and, eventually, a means of escape.

Review | Battlefield Heroes
Hero of the (lunch) hour.
You know that it's going to be free. You know that it's a stripped-down, knockabout deathmatch shooter built on Battlefield's sturdy chassis. You know that it looks terrific, like an animated propaganda poster for a war in a fancy-dress shop. You know that it's not evil. But did you know that Battlefield Heroes is secretly an MMO and almost an RPG?
