Review | UFO: Enemy Unknown
The very first game in the X-COM series (it was known as X-COM: UFO Defense in North America), this deep and involving turn-based strategy title is widely considered to be one of the best games ever released - on the PC. On the PlayStation, its gameplay was no less appealing, but the requirement for an entire memory card just to save games in Battlescape mode made it into an unpopular prospect for most gamers.

Interview | Rise of the Argonauts
Liquid Entertainment on redefining role-play.
Jason and the Argonauts made bold cinematic footprints in 1963, largely thanks to painstakingly created stop-motion animation widely considered as one of the greatest achievements in 20th Century film. We can still remember those plasticine skeletons being smashed all over the place, and Jason's battle with the three-headed Hydra. It's a tale so well known that when Codemasters announced it was remaking the tale with developer Liquid Entertainment, we felt a little joy rising inside.

Review | Pocket Fighter
If you weren't a fan of 2D beat 'em ups by the time the PlayStation rolled into town, you were probably never going to be a fan of 2D beat 'em ups. With Tekken, Soul Edge (latterly Soul Calibur) and their likes dominating the fighting game market, it looked like 2D games were destined for the scrapheap of history. Certainly, there were (and always will be) plenty of ardent devotees of the King of Fighters and Streetfighter titles, but for the mass market, 3D was a must-have for any face-kicking enterprise.

Review | Jumping Flash
One of the earliest titles to be released for the PlayStation console, Jumping Flash was also a strong hint about how the system's line-up would develop. Arguably one of the most important ancestors of every 3D platform game in the following decade, the game combined the aesthetics of platformers from the 16 bit era with the seemingly limitless potential of 3D gameplay on offer on the PlayStation. By itself, this makes Jumping Flash into a slice of videogaming history that's worthy of a revisit - but a couple of unique touches also make it into a game that's still fun to play, even now.

Review | Track & Field
Let the RSI epidemic commence!
Now and then, a classic pops up on Xbox Live Arcade that's every bit as life-affirmingly brilliant as it was when it very first came out. Track & Field (or Hyper Olympics as it was known outside of the US) is one of those games, and we couldn't be happier to have it back in our lives again. It was the first, and, somehow, 24 years on, it's still one of the very best. Even Konami itself has had trouble topping it.

Woo-hoo!
It has, with all due respect, been a crap decade for John Woo. We have no doubt that the legendary director probably still commands a healthy sheaf of greenbacks for turning up behind the clapperboard - but seriously, Paycheck? Windtalkers? Mission Impossible II? Hardly the kind of cinematic output that commands reverence.
