Review | Spider-Man 3: The Game
Not a magic number.
Every now and then a game comes along that shatters the long-held notion that movie-based titles are generally a bit of a cash-in waste of time. Sadly, Spider-Man 3 is not that game.

Review | Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon
Farm for the future.
Let's not procrastinate here. Your time is valuable, and I'm not going to make you wade through four paragraphs of concept nonsense this morning before actually telling you anything about this little mystery of a game - due to its numerous name-changes and constantly shifting release date, it's already gotten everybody confused enough. So, the facts: Innocent Life is the first Harvest Moon game not to be developed by Marvelous Interactive, and it bears no relation to the previous games in the series. It's a diversion, if you will. As you'll know if you read our Harvest Moon interview the other week, its development was handed over to a tiny, completely unknown development studio called ArtePiazza in an effort to create more innovation and variety within the series.

Review | Centipede and Millipede
Legs and co.
I hate to bring this up, but my conscience just can't let this one go. Three years ago, Atari rather generously (and sensibly) packaged together all of its 70s and early 80s output into one great value Anthology package. Released on the Xbox and PS2 , this exhaustive compilation featured an impressive 85 games in total, comprised of 67 Atari 2600 games and, more interestingly, 18 arcade titles from the era. All the early Atari favourites were there: Tempest, Battlezone, Asteroids, Crystal Castles, Missile Command, Gravitar, and even really old stuff like Pong and Super Breakout. Oh, and Centipede and Millipede. For the retro completest who hadn't dabbled in MAME (is there anyone left, seriously?) it was a well-rounded offering, even if revisiting many of these titles was a pretty harrowing experience in reality.

Review | Cooking Mama: Cook Off
Half-baked.
I can't cook to save my life (which is why I usually swim towards the light rather than sealing myself in pastry). Fortunately, the Wii's charm lies not in its ability to render activities realistically, but rather in its capacity to rend our preconceptions and deliver entertainment regardless of how skilled we might actually be in the activity we're performing. Little surprise then that within minutes of putting a flame to Cooking Mama I was chopping, peeling, frying and mincing with the best of them. Grilled bonito, pierogi, paella, lasagne, popcorn - when it comes to the console that makes surgeons out of tennis players, it's all in a day's wok.

Review | Lost In Blue 2
Wandered astray?
There were plenty of reasons not to like Lost in Blue. Personally I adored the game for its charming sense of adventure and unique, oddly touching ambiance, but it had definite problems that quite rightly turned many people away from it within the first few hours. Sexism, though, really wasn't one of them for me. Although the (universally male) game critics who criticised its man-hunt, woman-cook-and-clean portrayal of gender roles deserve points for effort, I really don't believe that there was anything malicious or genuinely upsetting about Lost in Blue's character roles; I think it was probably going for sweet co-dependence, but sadly it did end up coming across as a bit unenlightened.
