Review | Blitz: The League
NFL? NFI.
Welcome to Blitz: The League, where the rules are: there are no rules! Well, no, clearly there are rules. American football is a sport showered with a glittering pizzazz and promotion that our dreary rugby matches can only dream of. However, its rough and tumble nature is entirely at odds with the fundamental stop-start tactical style of play. You can't go two yards without being told to left-jink the ball in a 1-7-8 Godfather Part II full-on park-the-car-around-the-block squeeze-play and even the supposedly anarchic Blitz embraces those basics. The actual ‘no rules' part we're talking about here applies to the use of excessive physical force to get things done. It's an almost unique concept because, let's face it, that's certainly something you're not going to see in its chief competitor, Madden, any time soon, not since Electronic Arts gained exclusive rights to the NFL license.

Review | Bomberman Land Touch!
Shame reaction.
Poor old Bomberman. No matter how hard he tries, nothing's good enough. "JUST LOOK AT YOU," bellows Mrs. Hudson, as he stands shame-faced in the doorway. "Millions of sales? You're just a party game. Mrs. Square round the way has RPGs and all sorts. She even has a 'chocolate bow chicken' and he's more popular than you. Dennis? Come downstairs and tell Bomberman about Mrs. Square's chocolate bow chicken." "Aye - very popular." "YOU'RE NO SON OF MINE."

Review | Jade Empire: Special Edition
A bit jaded after two years?
Way back in the mists of gaming history, when Microsoft first announced that it was going to build a console, one of the more troubling accusations levelled at the Xbox was that it would be a death-knell for PC gaming. This, of course, was back when Microsoft was the bad guy, as incredible as that seems now. The accusation didn't hold water; sure, the likes of Halo may have been plucked from the PC release schedules, but we've seen plenty of top-notch platform exclusives on Xbox and PC alike in the last five years. Whatever other problems the PC may have had, the Xbox hasn't been one of them.

Review | SSX Blur review
Winner of discontent.
When Nintendo got up on stage at (insert trade show/press conference/railway platform of choice) and told the world it wanted to make gaming simpler and more approachable, somebody at EA clearly wasn't listening. SSX Blur is about as accessible as an Arctic supply station with no doors. Even if you've played all the other SSX games top to bottom and then caught the chairlift back up again, you'll still need to plug around an hour into the tutorials if you want to do anything more complicated than standing up.

Feature | What's New? (16th March, 2007)
The latest PAL releases and illegal advice.
To paraphrase Marty Feldman, I won't eat anything that has intelligent life, but I would gladly eat a lawyer. I hate lawyers. An actual, real-life lawyer at a party once told me about a case he was involved in. "I was defending a pair of men who'd been caught leaving a trout farm with stolen fish," he blurted, as I tried to sever my radial artery with a handful of postachios. "In court, I simply asked the prosecution to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, where the fish had come from. When they could not, the men went free." Very clever, you might think, and he certainly thought (I humoured him by going into anaphylactic shock). But it's not clever. Think about it. Go back a sentence and try changing "stolen fish" to "someone's kids", and "trout farm" to "playgroup". Not so funny now, is it? It also doesn't make any sense now, but you can see the point I'm not making. That's the sort of reason I hate lawyers. Also: Ally MacBeal.

Use Achievement sound as ringtone
Aural potential unlocked.
Love it or hate it, Xbox 360's "Achievement Unlocked" sound effect is the burst of noise most widely associated with Microsoft's next-gen console - although a torrent of profanity followed by the sound of "0800 587 1102" being punched into a telephone keypad is obviously a pretty close second.
