    Canis Canem Edit

Extensive hands-on with what looks like Rockstar's best game since GTA.

At the risk of plagiarising John's excellent review of Pathologic... Actually, where's the risk in plagiarising John? I can simply poke him in the stomach! Prod. So: "Living city". It's a misnomer, for the most part. The city only ever lives when you start changing it. If you don't start, it never will.

    Review | Ridge Racers 2

    Again again!

Bands love doing this. They release a few good albums, do a couple of tours, hit the studio again and crank out some nonsense, then return to form with a self-titled EP. Ridge Racer's a bit like that. Indeed, if the people who made Ridge Racers 1-4 did go on tour, that probably explains why RR5 and R: Racing were so ARGH; they probably whipped their heads round so fast demonstrating the cornering routines that they spun clean off and had to be surgically re-attached. Game development is much harder when you've accidentally decapitated yourself. Hang on, this seems familiar.

    Review | Secret Files: Tunguska

In Soviet Union, adventure game clicks on you.

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to interview Tim Schafer, the man who brought us Monkey Island 2, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. Among adventure aficionados, it's fair to say he's something of a legend. He was, of course, promoting his superb platform romp Psychonauts and I asked him if he felt a twinge of sadness at the point-and-click genre falling out of fashion. "People shouldn't cry for any genre", he said. "Be loyal to the concept of quality and imagination, not a scheme for mouse control."
