    Sega returns to self-publishing at last

    PSO, VF4 Evo and Sonic Adventure DX due out before the end of June

    Sega has finally confirmed plans to resurrect its publishing operation in Europe, announcing that it will build up sales, marketing and PR efforts in the region and publish Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution (PS2), Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut (Cube) and Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II (Xbox) by the end of June.

    Ubi releases Far Cry video

    Far Crying out loud!

    Ubi Soft has released another video showing off one of its First Person Shooters, this time Crytek's Far Cry, with its powerful CryEngine. The four-and-a-half-minute video shows off the game's physics, long-distance combat (hello Delta Force), realistically deformable terrain and fierce gun battles. Far Cry is due out in November of this year.

    Popular Battlefield 1942 modification Desert Combat could become a retail expansion, although not necessarily through official EA channels, GameSpot reports by way of CNN/Money (of all places). Apparently the US news conglomerate ran a piece on war-themed games and the recent surge in sales they have enjoyed (ulp), and quoted Desert Combat project lead Frank DeLise as saying that several publishers have expressed an interest in his mod.

    EA's RotK confirmed for PC, Cube

    Hypnos in the developer's chair, or, er, office

    IGN reports that EA is courting Hypnos Entertainment to develop the GameCube and PC versions of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Hypnos carried out the GameCube ports of The Two Towers and FreekStyle, so their ability to port games is certainly not in question.

    Sonic Adventure DX Gears up

    Sonic Team head Yuji Naka has given us some idea of why Sonic Adventure DX is so-called. Speaking in Japan, the Sonic creator said that versions of all the old Game Gear Sonics would appear in the new Cube release, jokingly referring to it as "Mega Collection 2".     EA has confirmed interweb reports that a second Battlefield 1942 expansion pack is in the works. GameSpot claims that the pack could be called Secret Weapons, although EA has merely confirmed the existence of a pack, rather than naming it and so forth.

    Datel has announced Action Replay for Xbox, the latest in a long line of cheat devices which represents the third and final prong in Datel's next-generation thrust. However, anybody hoping for a FreeLoader-style import-friendly device had better think again, because AR for Xbox is a cheat device - useful if you want to unlock all the bikinis in DOAX, presumably, but not so much if you just want to run Bistro Cupid.

    Sega will publish the US version of From Software's Xbox title Otogi - Myth of Demons, the publisher's American arm announced while we slept. As you may recall, excited by From's Xbox debut Murakumo last August, we found some details and unearthed some screenshots of the game - a 3D action title with magical combat set in a fairytale world. The US version of the game is now due out in September from Sega, who may well pick up the publishing rights to any PAL port.

    Europe gets enhanced ZOE2

    September release

    Hideo Kojima's "other game", the twirly aerial mech-combat title ZOE, is to receive a lick of paint for it European release this September. The PAL version of the game, subtitled The 2nd Runner, will benefit from exclusive stages, added battle sequences, several new game modes, two new difficulty levels (European Hard and European Extreme) and a brand new opening sequence with a remix of the main theme tune.

    Chrome beta registration open

    Help polish this Polish shooter

    Techland's tactical sci-fi shooter Chrome is entering the beta stage according to the developer and North American publisher Strategy First. The open beta will begin on April 7th and run until May 9th, and registrations are being accepted via the interweb. All you have to do is fill in a form and articulate why you should be a beta tester.
