Cliffe from the Counter-Strike team made a lengthy update to the official page regarding beta six of their extremely popular Half-Life mod, Counter-Strike. In the beta six release we can expect two completely new gameplay modes, they are, "Assasination" and "Escape", I'll let Cliffe fill you in on the details about these two modes. They are in need of high quality maps for these two new gameplay modes, so if you have any mapping skills at all then I suggest that you start designing those Counter-Strike maps. Our buddy Sameer from Warcraft3.net has fired up a lengthy in-depth analysis of the Warcraft III gameplay videos from the recent press conference that was held in Korea. But that's not all, Sameer has also tossed up some concept art from Blizzard which has never been shown on ANY website before, this concept art was featured in a Finnish magazine a while back.

FvF World have posted a flamethrower tutorial, showing you how to add everyone's favourite weapon into Quake 3.

Tumb, webmaster at UT-Web.de, a german UT site fired, off an email to Epic Games' lead programmer, Tim Sweeney asking about upcoming patches or fixes for UnrealED, the Unreal/Unreal Tournament level editor. Here's the reply from Tim:

The lucky chaps over at Square Gamer have received some juicy details about SquareSoft's upcoming project, if you thought the praised Final Fantasy series would die after Final Fantasy VIII, then you're wrong. Squaresoft have announced three more games in the Final Fantasy series that will make their appearance for Sony's Playstation (both PSX1 and PSX2), they are, IX, X and XI. Final Fantasy IX will be released summer 2000 in Japan, and will be available for the Playstation (you'll still be able to play it on your Playstation 2 though, as that console will be backwards compatible). The other two Final Fantasy games will only be available for the Playstation 2, Final Fantasy X will give players the option of playing a single-player game or an online game while Final Fantasy XI will be an online only title.

Mike Dussault, programmer over at Monolith has updated his .plan with some information about Monolith's LithTech 2 engine, he talks about new LithTech 2 features, Third Law Interactive, DirectX 7 (which is now in the engine) and there's even a little blurb about skeletal animation. I recommend that you check out the two screenshots of the engine in action over at VE, shot 1 and shot 2.

I noticed over at VE that GameSpot have put up an interesting little news blurb about Quake III for the Dreamcast. Apparently, an official announcement regarding Quake III for the Dreamcast will be coming next week. An interesting thing is that the Dreamcast version of Quake III will be online-playable, perhaps even against PC users.

The Team Assault Quake 3 mod page has been updated with five new screenshots of a few of the new weapons that will be featured like the sniper rifle, single barrel shotgun, and the new rocket laucher, along with pics of the ammo backpacks. Team Assault is a new team oriented mod for Quake III: Arena. Team Assault will feature gameplay similar to Quakeworld Team Fortress, and will include character classes like the scout, medic, and sniper

Brandon "GreenMarine" Reinhart of Epic Games has updated his .plan talking a little about the response to Age of Wonders and Unreal Tournament.

Confirming a rumour that's been doing the rounds for several months now, Electronic Arts have made this Bond fan very happy by announcing that they have licensed the Quake III Arena engine from id Software to develop a game based on the latest Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough. Maybe we will finally see a decent Bond game for the PC now?

Ruffskinz have posted a tutorial showing complete beginners how to get started producing skins for Quake 3 Arena player models.

At first sight Theocracy looks like an Age of Empires clone, transplanting the action from Europe and Asia to medieval Central America, and the Aztec empire.

I noticed over at VE that according to Avault, Westwood Studios' upcoming Role-playing game Nox has gone gold and will be on store shelves Feb. 15 in North America and Feb. 18 around the world.

A lot of stuff have been going on with the Soldier of Fortune demo lately, so I thought I'd sum them up in this post. 3DGN have put up a review of this demo, which they gave a neat 5/5. HQH51 has posted a Soldier of Fortune demo FAQ, which should answer any question you have about this demo, if not then pay a visit to Raven's official FAQ. Last but not least, the chaps at Damage Gaming have tossed up a walkthrough to this demo, so if you still haven't finished the singeplayer demo then take a peek at this walkthrough.

Our coverage of the XSi tourney from last weekend is almost complete now, with several new match reports up today - Makaveli vs Wombat (losers' bracket), Fatality vs Timber (winners' bracket final), Timber vs Makaveli (losers' bracket final), and Makaveli vs Fatality (grand final).

Cavedog Entertainment has confirmed with the Adrenaline Vault that both the add-on for its fantasy-themed real-time strategy game, Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, titled The Iron Plague, and the real-time strategy title 1602 A.D. have gone gold and will be available soon.

The newly opened WarcraftIII.net has put up a few movies from Blizzard's Role-Playing strategy game, Warcraft III, which were taken from a press conference in Korea. I haven't downloaded them yet but I recommend that any of you Warcraft fans grab them, while you download these movies be sure to take a look at all the Warcraft III screenshots available, they're just breathtaking!

Raven Software and Activision have finally released their anticipated Soldier of Fortune demo, which weigh in at a hefty 95 megs. It's available at GameSpot as an exclusive feature but we'll see some other mirrors soon, hopefully. The demo features 4 single player maps, 2 deathmatch maps, 12 different deathmatch models / skins representing 3 teams, In game server browsing and a bunch of other interesting stuff.

GT Interactive has finally released the patch (version 333) for Legend Entertainment's First-person shooter, Wheel of Time. You can find the list of changes and the download location here.
