Ok, so Daikatana might have been in development for slightly longer, but the second installment of the eagerly awaited Doom II mega-wad The Darkening is right up there with it. Featuring a dozen single player levels and a dozen deathmatch maps by some of the best Doom mappers around, and 600 (count 'em!) new textures by pixel pusher extraordinaire Ola Bjorling, this is well worth a look if you're a Doom fan.

Cliffe updated the Counter-Strike website today with an official release date for the upcoming beta 6 version, which will be out this Friday. They will also be holding an IRC release party called Spamfest III in their IRC channel #counterstrike on Gamesnet at 7pm EST, many Counter-Strike team members will participate in this event too, so be sure to check it out.

TegSkywalker informed me that the Team Assault Quake 3 mod page (a team oriented mod for Quake 3 that captures the feel and stays true to Quakeworld Team Fortress.) have been updated with new screenshots of the finished Flamethrower, Single shotgun, and the engineer's Railgun. They are also having a map contest where you can show them your TF style map, and if it gets accepted, they will include it as part of the mod. For more details, contact Jayle.

Randy just informed me that I.am/Half-Life is now chock-full of awesome new goodies for Half-Life, Opposing Force, and Counter-Strike. There are now new mods available (including the cool new Sabaneta 2050), Counter-Strike scripts and aliases, Opposing Force maps, Half-Life single-player maps, models and skins, updated console info, and even a load of new miscellaneous files that are just too unusual and varied to describe here. Seems like we missed this interesting little tidbit, Gearbox Software have released the demo for their official Half-Life expansion pack, Opposing Force over at GameCenter (you could also grab it from 3D Files). It comes in two flavors : small (30mb) if you already own Half-Life and a full, stand alone version (70mb) if you don't own Half-Life.
