  9. I've never played a racing game quite like Rims

Those that take their automotive thrills on two wheels rather than four have always been a very different breed. I was as taken aback as anyone by the drama around MotoGP rider Maverick Vinales and his Yamaha team these past few weeks, until Motorsport magazine's erudite Mat Oxley pointed out such is the way with riders, with tales of race secretaries being dangled from second floor windows and senior engineers having entire dinner services upended in their laps. A different breed indeed.

  15. 12 Minutes review - a time loop mystery that can't break free of tedium

Time loop mysteries are enduringly popular - 12 Minutes isn't even the only game featuring a time loop this year, but it sure is the closest to Groundhog Day, that most famous of time loop tales. It wears developer Luis Antonio's love for other forms of storytelling on its sleeve in more ways than that - in the opening sequence, you walk across the hall on the carpet from The Shining, while the set-up feels like a one-room play or, to acknowledge Antonio's love for Hitchcock, like the 1948 "limited-setting" thriller Rope, which takes place entirely in one apartment, just like the game.

  16. Ghost of Tsushima's Director's Cut upgrades are nice, but the new content is what matters

The Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is almost here, adding new content, PS5 upgrades, a co-op mode and a few bells and whistles to last year's pretty open-world adventure styled after classic samurai movies. I've been tinkering with it for a while and have a ton of impressions and footage to share.

  18. The 25 best games for VR you can play right now

Virtual Reality remains one of the most exciting things going on in games at the moment. The platform you choose will dictate which games are available - PlayStation VR, for instance, is relatively cheap compared to the alternatives, and while it can be a nightmare to wire up for the first few times, it tends to work well with small play-spaces - while others are more expensive but can be fancier in their various ways. Oculus Quest, meanwhile, has made wireless, all-in-one VR a reality, but it's still a little underpowered compared to the competition.

  19. Ghost of Tsushima's PS5 upgrade is worthwhile but not a game changer

Digital Foundry | Ghost of Tsushima's PS5 upgrade is worthwhile but not a game changer

    The Director's Cut tech review.

When PlayStation 5 launched in November last year, two Sony first-party developers - Bend Studio and Sucker Punch - tapped into the early cross-generation SDK, allowing Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima to run at 60 frames per second, dramatically improving the experience. Today, in concert with a Director's Cut edition that includes bonus content, Tsushima has been updated once more - no longer is it running under backwards compatibility, now it's a fully armed and operational PS5 title, able to tap into the full horsepower of the machine. So, what has changed and how good are the upgrades?

  20. Ghost of Tsushima: how Sony tackled PS5's cross-gen save problem

Digital Foundry | Ghost of Tsushima: how Sony tackled PS5's cross-gen save problem

No cloud transfers required - it just works.

Ghost of Tsushima has been given a proper PlayStation 5 upgrade, increasing resolution, decreasing loading times and removing pre-rendered cinematics for full real-time alternatives. It's a decent - though not exactly game-changing - upgrade, but what did catch our eye beyond this is how the new PS5 version imports any existing PlayStation 4 game saves you may have on your system. It's not a completely seamless experience, but the fact is that cross-save now works, allowing you to easily pick up on PS5 where you left off on PS4.
