  3. Disjunction review - tense and rhythmical top-down stealth

More pink, pixel-art clouds in video games, please - that's my main thought after playing Disjunction. The stealth is great, the action's fine, the story does it's thing, but goodness me the clouds. Great billowing waves, roaming by your sky-high window, smog coloured autumn gold and candied, bubblegum pink. Love.

  4. Cyberpunk 2077 Keanu sex mod removed following CD Projekt warning

Nobody was particularly surprised when modders managed to put Keanu Reeves' character into Cyberpunk 2077 sex scenes, so perhaps it comes as even less of a shock that CD Projekt Red has now intervened - and the model swap mod in question has been taken offline.

  11. Bowser's Fury is possibly the strangest Super Mario game since Sunshine

Sunshine looms large over Bowser's Fury, the expansion that's being bundled into next month's re-release of Super Mario 3D World. It's there from the second you boot it up - which you can do at any point, as this is a standalone experience - though I can't go into specifics just yet. Rather, I can give you a small taste of this most curious of offshoots.

  15. The Medium review - limited but enjoyable old school horror

Death is everywhere here. You can feel it. You can smell it. I know that makes no sense - how can you tell that from a video game? - and yet you know that's what it smells like, a muddy, earthy, cloying scent that sticks in your throat as you tiptoe across the razor-thin edge between Here and There. Light and shadow. Life and death.

  16. Grindstone review - an instant puzzle classic on Apple Arcade

Late last year, Canadian indie Capybara Games released its inscrutable dungeon-crawler Below, more than five years after its announcement and after several agonising public delays. So it's not surprising that the studio chose to wait to announce its next game, a smartphone puzzler called Grindstone, until the day before it was made available on Apple's new game subscription service, Arcade. No hype, no mystery, no wait: instant gratification.

  17. The Medium tech analysis: a closer look at Xbox's first next-gen exclusive

The Medium is a game of two halves - a game where you, playing as Marianne, dart between the world of the living and the dead. This distinct split is a defining factor of the story telling, the production of its soundtrack, and the rendering technology powering the game. It's also a fascinating release in that it walks the line between delivering a next generation experience for the latest Xbox Series consoles - it's not playable on prior gen hardware - while at the same time coming across as a homage to the early 2000s style of horror adventure game.

  18. Nuts review - if you go down in the woods today

I'm pretty sure there's a line somewhere in Melville where he suddenly announces he's not that keen on penguins. In my head I really think it's Melville - maybe Moby-Dick or The Encantadas. The line, as I half-remember it, suggests there is something uniquely unlovable about penguins, something slightly uncanny and nasty.

  21. Someone should make a game about: Liquid drum and bass

If I'm on a lengthy train journey, or a bus ride, or a flight with friends - I'm ever so dull. Sometimes I wonder if I've got a bit of an issue, especially when friends suggest a game of cards and I swear I can feel the puddles of dopamine evaporate in my brain. I am content to sit and stare out the window, just totally shutter off interaction and ponder. In a metal capsule travelling at speed, it's as if I shrink into myself, vanish into my own thoughts.

  22. Balan Wonderworld sure feels a lot like a classic Sonic Team game

Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka is back! Not that he's ever really been away, of course - after leaving Sega back in 2006, he founded Prope and produced entertaining curios such as Let's Tap while also contributing to the always fascinating Street Plaza games - but with Balan Wonderworld the Naka of old is back, as is a brand of action that's become increasingly rare. This is 3D platforming as you know and quite possibly love it from the turn of the century.
