RuneScape players say Twitter's bitcoin scam looks familiar

"I learned not to fall for this when I was seven."

If you went anywhere near Twitter last night, chances are you saw the chaotic aftermath of a massive security breach in which several celebrity accounts and cryptocurrency companies were hacked to tweet a bitcoin scam. Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Bill Gates and Kanye West were among the compromised accounts, all of them tweeting a very similar message. "I'm feeling generous because of Covid-19," the compromised Elon Musk account tweeted. "I'll double any BTC payment sent to my BTC address for the next hour."

  3. A morning with Ancestors Legacy was just what I needed

Ancestors Legacy is one of those games it might be relatively easy to pick apart. It's an RTS on a console, which always means you're up against the sheer flexibility of a mouse and keyboard. It's a modern RTS squashed onto Switch, which means the visuals take a hit and the multiplayer heart of most RTS games is absent. It can be a bit tricky to make out what's going on in handheld mode at times and the screen furniture is very busy. Fine. Rough edges and missing features. But a few hours in and I am really enjoying it.

  5. Ooblets is part farming sim, part Pokémon, all cute

Feature | Ooblets is part farming sim, part Pokémon, all cute

    And part card-battler obv.

It always feels a little weird writing about games that you've followed for a long time. Rebecca Cordingley and Ben Wasser, who together make the indie studio Glumberland, have been working on Ooblets since 2016. In that time, they've documented that process in detail on their website, and I've seen features being implemented, funding opportunities come and go, and I've met a lot of ooblets, too. Now Ooblets is available in Early Access via the Epic Game Store, a decision that was initially met with a striking amount of harassment. Apart from a few bugs here and there, it feels pretty finished, and if you've also been waiting for the game for a while, you can dig in without hesitation.

  11. Paper Mario: The Origami King review - a heartfelt creation that doesn't quite stand up

There's always been something unique in Paper Mario's wafer thin worlds: a sense of place and personality, an ability to linger and explore, a chance to stop and befriend. In its cardboard castles and papercraft dioramas, Paper Mario's mix of adventuring and role-playing has always managed to showcase Mario's surroundings as more than just background scenery, spotlight sidekicks or rivals and make them more than just one-dimensional, and be that rarest of things for video games - frequently very funny. Within its creases and corrugated backdrops, Paper Mario has consistently shaped the Mushroom Kingdom and its inhabitants into something more textured and weighty than its materials might ever suggest. Happily, you'll find much of the same heart, humour and character once again in The Origami King.

  15. Someone should make a game about: Dishwashing

Not to brag but I am probably one of the three best washer-uppers in the world. First proper job at a fancy creperie in my early teens. Just me and a WinterHalter 2000 keeping the kitchen in business. I would work ludicrous shifts and then go home soaked, like I had survived something. Really it was the kitchen that had survived something - it had survived me. One of the three best washer-uppers in the world.

  25. PUBG studio director talks bots, Sanhok remaster and staying competitive in the battle royale market

Feature | PUBG studio director talks bots, Sanhok remaster and staying competitive in the battle royale market

"This is a game I want players to join 20 years from now."

It's been over three years since PUBG first popped up on Steam, and while that's a relatively short time on paper, it somehow feels much longer. Perhaps it's because the wider gaming landscape around PUBG has changed so much: no longer the only battle royale on the block, PUBG now finds itself sharing that market space with several competitors, with a new contender appearing practically every few months.

  26. Death Stranding PC tech review - the upgrade we've been waiting for

Digital Foundry | Death Stranding PC tech review - the upgrade we've been waiting for

An excellent port limited only by lack of scalability.

There was a time when the chances of key PlayStation exclusives arriving on PC seemed slight - but the situation has changed and the arrival of Death Stranding for PC does a phenomenal job of liberating a stunning game from the confines of its host platform. In the process, the game runs at 60 frames per second (and indeed beyond) - Kojima Productions' original design target. But just how scalable is Death Stranding and what happens for 4K gamers when the PS4 Pro's checkerboard rendering is stripped out in favour of native rendering and other solutions?
