Digital Foundry | The Tomb Raider trilogy delivers Stadia's most successful ports
The reboot, Rise and Shadow stacked up against console and PC.
A genuine highlight of the Stadia review phase, Nixxes' port of Shadow of the Tomb Raider managed to deliver an impressive streaming version of the game offering virtual parity with the Xbox One X release, with full native 4K delivered in its quality mode alongside a rock-solid 60 frames per second in the default performance setting. But Shadow is just one of three Tomb Raider titles available to Stadia users and while there are some issues with Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, these are still slick, impressive conversions well worth investigation - especially as the original reboot is now free for Stadia Pro subscribers in December.

Recommended | Darksiders: Genesis review - delightful demon-thwacking from a new perspective
No cores for concern.
Sockets and gems! I love sockets and gems. So imagine my delight when, a few minutes into Darksiders: Genesis, a fresh perspective on the Hellish Zelda-alike series about monsters and demons, I clicked on a stray tab to find a whole page of sockets just waiting for gems.

Feature | I can't stop landing at Fortnite's Lazy Lake
A smaller splash.
Tilted is no more. The whole island Tilted ruled is no more. And this means it's interesting times for Fortnite. I've been getting used to Chapter Two's new island for a while now - I know parts of it quite well even if the overall arrangement hasn't quite clipped into place in my head - and I end up thinking about Tilted quite a bit.

Digital Foundry | Alien Isolation on Switch looks better than PlayStation 4
Minor visual downgrades eclipsed by a big leap in image quality.
Since the arrival of the Doom 2016 port for Switch, we've been continually impressed by developers' efforts to bring games designed for far more powerful hardware over to Nintendo's console hybrid. Even in the best cases, however, the sacrifices are usually plain to see: lower resolutions, lower frame-rates and a significant reduction in detail. Typical stuff but, with the right choices, the results can still look relatively good given the hardware - but what if I told you that Feral Interactive's Switch port of Alien Isolation is actually better than the PS4 and Xbox One versions?

Review | Phoenix Point review - saving a new world the good old-fashioned way
Another X-COM in all but name.
I'm saving the world again, much like I've saved it a dozen times before. I've taken command of yet another team of ragtag soldiers and scientists, and returned once more to frantically scampering back and forth across a terrified planet, responding to panicked reports of strange creatures unleashing horrifying attacks. I've been scavenging their weapons, analysing their biology and reverse-engineering their technology. The fate of humanity itself rests on the shoulders of fewer soldiers than would fill a classroom and the invisible, intangible people who presumably exist behind them, fixing their weapons, tending their wounds and laundering their blood-stained undershirts at the conclusion of every suburban skirmish.
