  7. Celebrating the humanisation of queer women through humor in video games

I kicked off Pride month by watching Booksmart, a charming and funny coming-of-age story that explores identity, sisterhood, and queerness. In my favorite scene, one of the protagonists has sex for the first time. She's drunk, nervous, and it's not just her first time getting laid - it's also her first time acting upon her attraction to women. It starts out fine, but then in the middle of it all, she pukes on her partner. Her partner screams in disgust, she runs out, and my best friend and I squirm in our seats from the worst case of secondhand-embarrassment we've ever had.

Chris Charla discusses consolidation, subscription services and curation.

It's been a few weeks since the Xbox E3 briefing, which has just about given us enough time to calm down from the excitement of Keanu Reeves appearing onstage. 16. The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan feels like the Until Dawn follow-up you've been waiting for

I loved Until Dawn until its last five minutes. A perfectly-pitched take on the teen horror genre, Supermassive's choose your own adventure tale had me hooked up to the very end... until a character I'd struggled to keep alive for hours succumbed within the final few seconds. To be fair, I messed up - something to do with the game's motion controls, I think. Clearly, four years later, I still care enough to be annoyed.

  18. Switch's next Tegra X1 looks set to deliver more performance and longer battery life

Digital Foundry | Switch's next Tegra X1 looks set to deliver more performance and longer battery life

Nvidia's cooking up a new chip - and details are starting to emerge.

This year's E3 delivered some impressive new Switch software, but hopes that Nintendo would reveal its hotly rumoured hardware revision - or hardware revisions - proved fruitless. The eagerly anticipated new Switches failed to materialise, but they should be appearing in the not-too-distant future - and while we know nothing about physical form-factors, the silicon at the heart of the new hardware is starting to come into focus. The standard Tegra X1 found within Switch is evolving and the evidence exists to demonstrate that both the mooted Switch mini and Switch Pro are possible targets offering improved performance, better battery life - or perhaps even both.

  21. Cory Barlog discusses almost cutting Kratos from God of War 2018

Kratos might seem inextricable from God of War, but Sony Santa Monica considered dispensing with him early on in the PS4 reboot's development, fearing that his anti-heroism had become a liability. During an on-stage stage interview at Gamelab in Barcelona today, game director Cory Barlog discussed the game's change of direction and what almost got hacked out of the package along the way.

  22. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga feels like a new hope for Lego video games

Three years ago I reviewed Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens and found it an oddly incomplete experience. The whole film was there, miniaturised into Lego form. There were extra missions too - further adventures from Disney's new franchise canon - included to pad it out. But it still felt a little too brief for a Lego game - experiences which, typically, cover a whole movie trilogy or more inside a single release.

  27. The Sinking City review - a lacklustre whodunit unable to fulfil lofty ambitions

The Sinking City is Frogwares' latest, and it's the team behind The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes series - a series that's been running since 2002 - most ambitious title to date. It tries to apply the dev's brand of detective gameplay to a sprawling open world setting, for one, making it the longest Frogwares game so far, while this time out it tackle another beloved piece of literature. And the Cthulhu mythos is important to many people because it represents fear itself.

  28. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition looks great, but still has to compete against itself

The only problem with Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is that you can already play the original Age of Empires 2.
