Review | Detective Pikachu review - warm, fuzzy, but just a little too timid
The Moltres Falcon.
I had fun watching Detective Pikachu, a fuzzy, endearingly slimy first crack at a live action-animation hybrid from the Pokémon Company. It was a strange kind of fun though - a bit like the fun you have in being a plus-one at a wedding: a perfectly jolly, mercifully brief time out, that does also come with a nagging sense that whether or not you actually enjoyed it is irrelevant, really, because this whole thing was put together for someone else.

While Spyro is a peppy and cute little dragon, you've gotta admit: his flying skills could do with some work. Aside from when using power-ups or on speedway levels, Spyro's stumpy little wings can only take him so far, leaving players to jump and run their way across the game's platforms.

Review | Bubsy: Paws on Fire review - gaming's neglected bobcat returns as a runner
Whisker-sessment.
I spent the first few minutes with Paws on Fire in a sort of Bubsy Fugue. I would reach the end of a level, watch the score counter spin past the million mark and see the various collectable parts of a medallion slot into place, and realise I had no real memory of where I'd been or what I'd done. If you're not a Bubsy super fan, the bobcat can have a sort of enervating impact. He never seems to get the best gigs or the finest treatment. His platformers struggle to stick in the memory.

Dance Dance Revolution prompts heart attack
Fortunately, in public and in the company of quick thinking friends.
A fifteen-year-old American girl has survived a brush with the almighty after her heart stopped during a presumably hectic bout of Dance Dance Revolution at the arcade. DDR, better known on this side of the planet as Dancing Stage, sees players tapping their feet on symbols on the floor that correspond to directions indicated on the screen - the idea, for those with no idea, is to 'dance' along as accurately and punctually as possible.

Stepped in history.
At long last, I now have an excuse to write about one of my absolute favourite games: the wonderful and ridiculous Dance Dance Revolution. Two days ago, the game turned 20 - marking two decades since its original release in Japan on the 26th September 1998. It's almost as old as me. Almost.

Dance Dance Revolution movie in the pipeline
Sounds like a misstep.

Probably not, according to Konami
GameSpot reports this morning that Dance Dance Revolution could be heading to Xbox. The report is based on a product entry on the EBGames website, often an oracle for details on unannounced titles. However, despite claims that it will support Xbox Live with downloadable music tracks, characters and dance steps, Konami in the UK had nothing to say on the matter other than the game doesn't appear on their release schedules (internally or otherwise), and that EBGames often claims they're doing things which never materialise. Looks like we'll have to wait and see.
